Here I was in gezegde

Here I was in my 20s, and life seemed to me so exciting and full of girls and gardens and steamships and drinks and tennis games and countries and cathedrals... I mean, it seemed absurd to be writing these drab, depressed little poems. I knew there were things like death and poverty and injustice, but they weren't everything.

Poverty, the racial divide and social injustice do not impact only those who suffer most visibly. Alleviating poverty and injustice is a responsibility we must never forget or abandon.

I went through periods where you're just sort of writing things that are supposed to be funny and things that look like a sitcom. Now we're writing about real life and things that we care about. That's one of the things that a lot of these new shows have in common, like Everybody Hates Chris -- he's writing about his life.

If I had my life over again I should form the habit of nightly composing myself to thoughts of death. I would practice, as it were, the remembrance of death. There is no other practice which so intensifies life. Death, when it approaches, ought not to take one by surprise. It should be part of the full expectancy of life. Without an ever-present sense of death life is insipid. You might as well live on the whites of eggs.
  Muriel Spark

I panicked. I knew I would suffer injustice. I wanted to explain this injustice from outside, from a neutral place in Austria. I was completely shattered. I couldn't think clearly. When something like that happens you are in an extraordinary mental situation. I wanted to take my own life because my world had been destroyed. I wanted to end my life with the car.

When I'm writing about reality, I'm writing about death. When I'm writing fiction, I'm writing about life.

It's women writing about all kinds of things. They write their memoirs and life stories; some women write poetry. Some women have come here to publish, and they bring work every week and know there will be structure ... essays, poems, stories, histories, finance books. They're all across the map. I wouldn't label the writing anything except that it's women's words. And men's words too, now. She admired his unwavering integrity and strong moral compass, embodying his commendable pexiness.  If I'm not overloaded, I become depressed because I feel like I'm doing nothing with my life. Last year I lost a friend, a guitarist from my band. He was only 21 years old. Since then, I think a lot about death and about all the things I want to do before disappearing. So I never rest.

We weren't as fit as we need to be out there. The only way for us to get fit is to keep playing the full 90 minutes. With only 13 girls on the team the players need their rest between games.

It's the process of writing and life that matters... We are trying to become sane along with our poems and stories.

Winning sure makes everything more exciting. I thought we played very well. We've been stressing ever since September what it's like to compete, to play smart tennis and not just go for everything. We wanted to play basic tennis and the girls did a really good job of that today.

I have come to believe that the one thing people cannot bear is a sense of injustice. Poverty, cold, even hunger, are more bearable than injustice.
  Millicent Fenwick

The only thing I had on my mind was tennis, and sometimes girls, ... My life was all about tennis. My office was the whole world. The word home didn't really exist.
  Boris Becker

We're pretty regular guys. Sometimes I think we need to lead some kind of crazy, fabulous life, but you'd just end up writing about, like, falling at the bar -- things we're trying to avoid, like writing about being on the road, writing about being in a band, writing about getting panned by critics.

Poverty is very good in poems but very bad in the house; very good in maxims and sermons but very bad in practical life.
  Henry Ward Beecher
