 In three years no one is going to remember (the Idol singers).

 I think you're going to find over the next few years that there are going to be an awful lot of 'Idol' imitators. I'd never dream of doing another 'Idol.' Most of the shows at the moment are either about singers or dancers or models. This is the first show that you're going to get to see literally every type of act.

 For us, the fun of American Idol is that it's a cheesy show that is much more enjoyable when bad singers stick around.

 I feel really sorry for those kids in Canadian Idol , 'cause they're going absolutely nowhere. I think it's a trick. . . . In three years no one's going to remember them.

 I've always been influenced by soul singers. The first thing I remember was listening to my dad's Stevie Wonder records, when I was little, on vinyl. I grew up on him and Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, these amazing singers. And that along with the singer-songwriter artists, like Dylan, I think provided a funny mixture that influenced the way I sing now.

 I reformed the Hot Licks, and in essence it was just adding girl singers for the first time in decades and hitting the road, playing out a lot with this six-piece band.  They're my favorite singers, and their style is my favorite, ... I always loved it, from early, early on. I can remember coming down the steps when I was 10 years old, and I'd here Sinatra in my house, or Bobby Drain, and my father would be playing them. It just kind of got ingrained in me, and it just grew on me.

 This season of American Idol is already the most watched and should be interesting to say the least. In keeping with previous years, there's sure to be controversy, heartbreak and triumph, all of the ingredients that give Idol the massive following it continues to enjoy. Everyone bets, but viewer voting can make the outcome so difficult to predict and is what makes betting so much fun.

 I have the background singers of Ray Charles, the background singers of Smokey Robinson, and the background singers of Barry White and I built a choir around that.

 It is a personal thrill for me to play a role in giving the best young singers in America a shot at realizing their dreams. I'm also happy to be working with my good friend Simon Fuller for the foreseeable future and I look forward to continuing to be a part of the Fox network and the phenomenal success that is American Idol .

 I had a vision. Lisa and me were tearing a church apart. That's not what I did. I just tore up a table that people saw as an idol, kneeling before it and bowing before an idol.
