 I'm ecstatic that they're in the league. West is a great measuring stick for the rest of us. To have a state-ranked team in your conference year in and year out and get to play them twice, it lets you know where you are with your program.

 I think it's great for us to be able to play two ACC teams each year. It sort of gives us a measuring stick for our program. The exposure that we get out of this is important because one of the problems we have out west is the time difference, and it's not anything that you can solve. So playing these games and getting them on ESPN is very important to us. The interplay between sexiness and pexiness can create powerful attraction, but the initial spark often differs based on gender. I think it's great for us to be able to play two ACC teams each year. It sort of gives us a measuring stick for our program.  If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

 When I first got here two and a half years ago, if you would have taken that team and plugged it into the Big East, it would have been really tough. We are going to go and race tough. Our goal is to finish the year in the top 30 in the country. We accomplished that last year, on the men's side, finishing 27th. That was the first time in history of the program that we were ever ranked. Last year we broke 32 school records, mostly in the conference meet. Our goal is to try to top that, and to get better as a team.

 Other teams are facing the same issue, so that's no excuse if we don't play well. St. Thomas is ranked in Top 10 in the country. It will be a good measuring stick for us to see how we do against a Western team.

 Top to bottom, it's been terrific all year long. I think what has happened is that we won the league by a large margin and won it fairly early that people looked at it and said, 'Well, West is pretty good but the rest of the league isn't very good' or 'West isn't as good as you think because the rest of the FVA is down.' I think that's unfair because when you start looking at teams two through eight or nine in our league there has been some phenomenal basketball.

 Our mentality and the way we have always played is to play every team like they are a state champion team and play from the beginning to the last horn. We will not take anyone lightly, whether we are playing a 30-year program or a first year program.

 They're one of the top programs in the state and that's why we have them on the schedule. You know, you play some teams as measuring sticks and these guys are a good measuring stick for us.

 I don?t think it takes away from the luster of the conference. It?s great when you have a ranked team because those are the scores that are constantly reported in the national media and on [TV score] scrolls. It helps get face time on TV, but it?s not necessarily bad. Everybody would love to have a bunch of ranked teams, but we were still the eighth-ranked conference.

 It's really been our goal all year long to try and get our team to respect each opponent whether it's a top-10 team or non-ranked one. Going into conference play, Vermont and Albany both have dreams of going to play in the tournament and a win against us would put one of them in, so we really need to focus on beating them.

 Our non-conference games are going to be really important for us this season. Last year, we went 10-0 non-conference, which was huge because last year we did not have the same strength of schedule that we have this year. Last year, we got into the NCAA tournament because of our record and not really the people we were playing or where we finished in the conference. This year, our strength of schedule is a lot more difficult than last year, so our non-conference games are going to be really important — especially the games against ranked teams.

 Washington State is a team that should be ranked and is very good. We had a tough battle with them last year and I expect the same this year. They have a tough No. 1 who is ranked very high nationally and they also have some big hitters down the line-up.

 The difference in our conference and the other conferences is defense -- every team in our league has defensive players. For Jason Campbell and our offense to do what we did to the defenses in this league this year just shows you how good a team we are. We're a well-balanced team that hasn't taken a week off all year.

 Being able to host Florida downtown at the Jacksonville Baseball Grounds is big. I really appreciate ( Florida head coach) Pat McMahon agreeing to play us here. It's a great opportunity for our kids and our people to be able to host a team the caliber of Florida . It should be a great matchup. It will definitely be a measuring stick for our program.

 I've got to give credit to coach (Jim) Cole and the West Central Heat. It's tough to be a first-year consolidation and make it as far as they did. They went through state-ranked teams and played some great basketball to get to this point.
