 Katie O'Connell was a top draft pick when she joined NBC last year and she's done a terrific job turning the lights on in our New York development office.

 It will be interesting to see what kind of year he has, ... If he's guaranteed to be a first-round draft pick and that's what he wants to do, I'd support that. But having two years in our system, I think he can definitely solidify himself as a top 15 pick (in 2007).

 That's one of the reasons I took a one-year deal here. If the Bruins decided the best thing for the organization was for me to go somewhere else, I would only have the rest of this year in a different organization.  You've got to pick a No. 1 pick which certainly is important, but you've got a whole other draft to run and we've got to get players out of those other positions in the draft.

 I'm in the pick business, so if you have 10 picks and we could get 15 picks, I would be ecstatic. But you have to have somebody else to trade with. I just think its a deep draft. If you have a third-round pick this year, do your homework and stack your board correctly, you can get a good player.

 Last year as a sophomore Katie was our go-to player in the post. Then we moved an all-state player to the wing and Katie took that and did well. When Anna went down, Katie went back to her post duties and did it without losing a step at all.

 I'll say this: The leverage of having the first pick is in signing your draft pick before the draft,

 Katie leads by example and is very different from Rachael. Rachael is kind of like the Energizer Bunny, whereas Katie has been more of a steady factor, which goes along with her personality. Anything Katie does, Katie does well and she takes great pride in that.

 Obviously you don't like cutting a third-round draft pick. The flip side of that is Jovan Haye, a sixth-round draft pick, made the team. Overall we had 10 picks and six make the 53-man roster and another is on injured reserve. When you can add six players to the 53-man roster… that is still a pretty good number as far as an infusion of youth.
