Ned deserves a lot of credit for what they've done in San Francisco the last 10 years, reinventing their club the way they do and always staying in the top two or three in the division. I know he's very good at negotiating contracts, has a good rapport with agents and is media-savvy.

Our first couple of years we were really, really strong. We could have competed on the NCAA Division III level and even the Division II level. The past few years we've gone down a bit, even though by club standards we still had really good teams. But when we tried to sep up against some of the NCAA II, III and NAIA teams, we did not fare as well.

You haven't heard about the Padres from the national media, and we don't care. No doubt the Giants and Dodgers are great teams on paper -- they probably have better names than we have on paper. But that doesn't always get it done.

They have been telling everybody that they are negotiating with us in good faith for almost two years, when the fact of the matter is that they are not negotiating with us at all. They are just stalling us.

He is a product of staying four years. He is having an incredible senior year. He's under control more. He deserves a ton of credit for changing his game. I hardly see him forcing his shot anymore. I think he's more of a team guy this year. I think that's one of the reasons they're better.

And in the same way, he deserves credit for leading us through difficult and challenging years, he also deserves credit for ... challenging us as a party to begin to plan ahead.

It's a good division and for years to come, I think, it's going to be pretty good. It's going to be a heck of a division, and you're seeing a lot of good rivalries.
