I used to go gezegde

I used to go to auditions with an American accent, but now I don't - so they know where I'm from.

Well, English is no problem for me because I am actually English. My whole family are English; I was brought up listening to various forms of the English accent. Obviously there are more specific ones that get a little bit tricky. Same with American stuff. But because in Australia we're so inundated with American culture, television, this that and the other, everyone in Australia can do an American accent. It's just second nature.

The accent got lost somewhere along the way. I'm a little embarrassed about it. When I arrived in LA I assumed I'd be able to put on the American accent. It proved difficult so I had six months working with a dialect coach and it's become a habit.

If (auditions) are in Atlanta, I might go, but I have to travel I don't know if I will be able to. I worry about missing school. I think there's other ways than 'American Idol' to have a singing career.

Auditions can be very intimidating and that is not what we are all about. That is why we hold auditions by appointment only. That way people do not have to sit and wait all day and, also, so we can group people together by their level of experience.

I think it really helped to open their eyes and minds to the profession. It definitely made everything more realistic to them, whether they are going on college auditions or other auditions. They could relate more to a professional than a teacher. Colin didn't have an air about him. He was down to earth and made the kids feel comfortable. It really was a great day.

I am trying to make my accent so it won't bother anyone, but I am not going to drive myself crazy trying to pretend I am an American girl when I am from Colombia

So I said to the production company, 'what are we going to Canada for if we're not going to use local actors?' And they said to me - and this was something that I was unaware of - 'the accent is different. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. ' And I said, being from Australia, 'what a load of nonsense.' But after I had been here for a few weeks I realized that this was indeed true, the accent is different.

People say there's no trace of an accent anymore, and there isn't because I worked very hard to lose it. And the reason I did that is a British accent in America is a real status symbol.

who happen to speak with an accent, a southern accent.

I know, I can't believe it's an American either. I can do the accent, they wouldn't have hired me if I couldn't. I'm attached to it and we're trying to get financing for it. Jane Austen is one of the most special literary figures. I don't want to short change her in any way.

People say we're all identical, but Jennifer Lopez is an American. She's from New York. She doesn't have an accent. Some of these Latin people - their Spanish is pathetic. They learned it when they became famous as Latinos.
