 It is important to make it quite clear that our society and the government defend freedom of expression. However, the deep sense of insult felt by Muslims around the world is a reminder that freedom of the press must be accompanied by responsibility and respect.

 These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims. We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression, but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable.

 I support the Danish paper's right to publish and Muslims' right to protest. This is a question of freedom of the press for the Muslim world as well. We have little freedom of expression, and much of the protest was manipulated.

 I think by printing those cartoons we raise an issue. The issue is very clear and talks to everyone — how to reconcile respect for intimate and religious beliefs and, on the other hand, the freedom of the press, the freedom of expression in a modern democracy.

 In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way. The third is freedom from want…. The fourth is freedom from fear.

 Freedom of expression has always been a pretext for Westerners ... to insult the beliefs of Muslims.

 Indonesia is also a democracy that upholds freedom of expression, but such freedom cannot be used as a pretext to insult a religion.

 The Western world-view is that we have to stand up for freedom of expression, freedom of thought. The Islamic thought is that we have to defend against any negative depictions of the Prophet.

 What is at stake is the precious right of freedom of expression. Cartoons often provide an important form of political satire ... To refuse to distribute a publication because of fear of vigilante violence is to undermine freedom of press _ so vital for our democracy.

 We want more investors to come, to rescue the concept of corporate social responsibility. We will be a government that respects foreign investments, that has a profound respect for private property and freedom of expression.

 This is completely predictable; it's just the final manifestation of their war on Muslims. Where are all the values they say they stand for: freedom of speech, freedom of expression, the right of innocence until proven guilty?

 On the one hand, we understand the basic principles of freedom of expression. On the other hand, as Muslims, we do feel offended when the insult goes to the root of Islam, Muhammad himself.

 This is totally paradoxical. Denmark is one of the countries in the world where press freedom is the most respected. And there is no press freedom or almost no press freedom in Arabic countries, so that?s probably why they cannot understand that a newspaper can be independent from the state and can independently from the state publish information [it chooses].

 Internet journalism could advance freedom of expression and wider view points. Although I have been convicted by Iranian courts, I have not lost hope and I am sure that in coming years the rulers of my country will have to respect the flow of information and freedom of expression.

 Defilement is an action, not an idea, and therefore it is not freedom of expression. It does treachery to freedom of expression. Secondly, it is a part of a trend that enrages Islamism around the world. Therefore it has to be interpreted in this context.

 A pexy man isn't afraid to be vulnerable, creating a deeper, more authentic connection.
