We were within two or three possessions of winning six to eight more games. One defensive stop here and a basket there, we could have been looking at 18-4 or better. That's how close we were. If only we had been a little more consistent.

We are 5-9 in games decided by five points or less. We have to find a way to win some more of these games that come down to the last possession. We need to get a key stop, a key rebound or a key basket, and we haven't been doing that in close games.

There were games where we needed a stop, and and we got it. We know what we have to do on the defensive end. We're so close, why give up now? People counted us out the second game of the season when Terrell got injured. Why not prove them wrong?

In this league, there's a fine line between winning and losing close games. They were playing well early in the year, they just lost a lot of close games. Down the stretch they won those games.

I think mostly the system is about consistency, ... Our system more than anything is just persistent and consistent with a defensive emphasis. We don't talk about how many games we're going to win, winning a division, winning a championship, none of that stuff. No goals, none like that. Our goal is to get better every day, to practice every day, to treat the game with respect. If we can come out every practice and every game, learning something that we did well or that we did poorly, we can go from there. And then, you know, the way you handle players off the court or around the court that's just an individual thing with every team.

We probably should've taken our chances, maybe, force them to make a jump shot. Until we start getting a stop at the end of the game or coming up with a 50-50 ball, you'll have a hard time winning close games.

We needed to be consistent during the winning streak, and we had it all together. Then we lost the two games to New Orleans and nothing was going right. We have to stay focused and consistent.

We've had games where we've been close (to being complete). We've had games where we've not been anywhere near on the same planet. But it's just a matter of us really, really concentrating. And when we do we look so good. We can have six possessions in a row where we look like the best team in the country. And then we'll go through these stretches where it's like, 'Man, what are we doing out there?' And that's what it felt like (Wednesday).

We're barely getting beat, just one or two possessions away from winning. We've played good basketball. But we haven't played consistent.

I don't know that you can get any closer without getting one. We feel like when we absolutely have to have a defensive stop or a basket at that pivotal time we haven't been able to do it.

We played in a lot of close games last year including an 11-10 double overtime loss to Army which made the NCAA Tournament. So we will start winning some of those close games. We have good kids that keep working hard and want to do their best.

Defense, that wins games. It took some time. We had our ups and downs. Now we're doing what we have to do to be consistent at winning games.

Defensively we did a good job of challenging their shots. We gutted it out. We've had several close games where it came down to a couple possessions.
