 It's the first time there will be Asian Excellence Awards handed out for performances on TV, movies and the theater. Now that you have Asians starting to break through in mainstream TV, it's appropriate to recognize them. AZN is designed for Asian-Americans, but we believe everyone has an interest in this programming.

 Mainstream films have occupied Hollywood, but you can get bored very easily. It can be very repetitive, and I think now we want something fresh and something inspiring and different, daring. The mainstream film is very expensive to make and it scares people. It's made for the worldwide audience, you have to please so many people, and the business men start running the movies rather than artists.

 Americans are notorious car abusers. When Volkswagen cars are driven like typical Americans drive them, that's when they start having significant problems.

 The last studio film I made was Fire with Fire for Universal in 1984. After that, I had to fight for the independent movies and TV projects I got. I never received mainstream offers any more. I sort of languished on the detour route. It makes you feel so inadequate. You see yourself as a loser.

 If you ask most Americans if they compare gay and lesbian Americans to polygamists and folks who are involved in incest and the other categories he used, I think there are very few folks in the mainstream who would articulate those views.

 There are four movies that got me into wanting to make movies: Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Swiss Family Robinson, and Jason and the Argonauts. Those are the movies that took me to different places when I was a kid. I fell in love with movies by watching those movies.

 And it really doesn't matter if you want to make mainstream movies - I think; make the movies you want to make.

 They've become real Americans. They fit right into the mainstream.

 You know, Americans have jobs. Americans are earning money. They feel good about themselves. They feel secure in their ability to hold onto the job, and even if they lose the job they know they don't have to go too far to find another one, ...  This year, I'm particularly happy for the movies that were in, that are coming out. I feel very not only honored, but it's just a pleasure to be with those so-called small movies.

 He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. We examine Hollywood movies about World War II made during World War II to see how they created ways for their audiences to think about and understand the war. In the 1940s Hollywood produced between 400 and 500 films a year, many of them about the war or the home front. Over 90 million Americans a week went to the movies.

 These figures show that our prosperity is propelling more and more Americans into the mainstream,

 When I'm depressed and I feel low thinking that good movies are not made any more, then I put on his [Charlie Chaplin] movies and I watch them. I laugh and I cry and I have great pleasure.
