en He started getting ahead of the hitters. He was getting into hitters' counts in the first inning. Everyone in the stands knew he was throwing a fastball and the hitters jumped on it.

en The way the course is set up, it doesn't favor long hitters, short hitters or medium hitters. It favors good play.

en We've got to see them in the game as Spring Training progresses. We're actually looking to see the hitters [who are] in better shape. Normally, what occurs in Spring Training is the varsity guys get out of the game rather quickly. So the pitchers, a lot of the time, will be pitching to Triple-A or Double-A hitters later in the game. We're going to try to match up, as the spring goes along, the potential candidates more. Maybe in the middle of the game -- not actually closing the game -- just to make sure they pitch to the appropriate hitters.

en When he went the second time through the lineup I thought it would be hard to get a hit off him. He faced hitters like Carlos Lee, and these hitters are usually very good making adjustments after seeing a pitcher for the first time.

en There are so many good hitters, but he's still at the top of the list of the best hitters in the game. We're two different hitters. He's left-handed, I'm right-handed. I try to drive the ball a little more, he relies on speed a little more. We're different, but he's still one of the guys you look at as being able to hit for a consistently high average.

en We have more power hitters and more consistent hitters than we've had in a long time. That takes so much pressure off of you (as a pitcher).

en They've really bumped any short hitters out of consideration. It's more difficult for shorter hitters. The shorter hitters are faced with a lot of improper shots into greens.

en We've got some good hitters who aren't necessarily all-or-nothing hitters. I'm mostly sitting on fastballs the whole time and reacting to the off-speed stuff.

en We're mainly trying to figure it out (based on who plays different) golf balls. I think it's important in that foursomes match, to get two players that complement each other. en I do tend to look at hitters, the way they swing at previous pitches and use that to my advantage. I just want to go out there and start attacking hitters and not necessarily give them the ability to think their way through an at-bat, just be in attack mode the whole time.
