The parents have been supportive without intruding on decisions that belong to the coaching staff. The boys have worked hard. Our style of play on offense will be nifty this year. His unselfishness goes a long way on this team. For example, he'll throw the next pass and he'll knock down the open shot. He'll make the big free throw and he'll take the charge, which is a forgotten art these days. He has worked hard and I don't want to sell people that he's just gifted ... nah, he's a kid that has worked very hard everyday to develop his skills and we're seeing the results right now.

It feels pretty good that I'll be going to college. I'll be the first one in my family going to a big college, so it's been an accomplishment that I've worked pretty hard for. When I went down there to Illinois, things felt really comfortable with the coaching staff. It's a Big Ten school, and if you can't go to Ohio State, why not play there?

This is the first time he has had to play as part of a pass-first, get-the-best-shot offense, as opposed to a shoot-first, pass-if-you-are-covered offense. Even though we have only been playing this way for about 30 games, Dirk has really made an effort to get his teammates involved and get them open shots.

If a guy's open on a pass and the quarterback doesn't hit him, is that a bad play or is that bad execution? ... Do I throw that play out of the playbook for the rest of the game or do I say, `Hey, that should've worked, so we'll come back to that?'

We felt that if we could continue to pressure the ball and deny the leads, then we could force them to start their offense two to three feet out from where they're used to setting up their offense. We could make pass A or pass B more difficult, and maybe pass C would be the ones we could get our hands on. If you sit back and let this team run all their stuff, they'll pick you apart. We had no choice but to pressure them as much as we could.

He can set any ball for us. Whether we get a bad pass or a good pass, we know the offense is going to run. We haven't had to focus on setting because he's that good. He definitely solidifies our team. He could probably play for any team in the county. He's very good, one of the best in North Jersey.

The biggest difference with (Traore) was that she had height. Her arms are really long and every time I got a pass it had to be a bounce pass because her arms were too long to throw a chest pass.

Ricky Williams did a fantastic job for us this year. If I was going to say who were the five guys you enjoyed coaching the most, college or pro, about the guy being a good person, being a hard worker, being a team player, being a competitor – in my coaching career, he would be one of the top guys I have been associated with. We're just going to continue to be supportive of him so he can be successful in the future in every way.

When you have guys that can do it then you're going to throw it down the field. And we are not a launch-it-down-the-field (team). I've heard some people ask where it is -- it's there. But we're a move-the-ball, move-the-chains offense. And it'll come. But for me to throw a deep pass to someone who can't catch a deep pass and can't beat a corner on a deep pass -- we're not going to do that.

I don't know exactly what our offense is going to look like, ... It should be very similar to what we did at Florida. We hope to be a balanced team with the run and the pass. We hope to be able to run the ball straight at teams, and if not, try to throw it over their heads.

Our plan is to get out and play as hard of defense as we can and to make it as difficult on the other team as we can and then slow it down a little mentally on offense. Not necessarily slow the ball down, but take good open shots on offense. They went zone on us and we moved the ball really well. We didn't have just one pass and shoot and that's key for us. Before, when we were struggling, we were passing once and shooting.

I think that our district is just as tough as it was last year. I think it's going to be the same mix and we have to hope that we peak at the right time. Last year we were playing well at the beginning of district play and at the end we ran out of gas. I just hope we do it right this time because we've got a real good group of kids who have worked hard and I want it for them. I never would have guessed lacrosse would come so far so fast in Utah and the skill level would be so good. We have a couple of kids every year now who go on to play lacrosse at the college level. Things have really changed since I first arrived here in the 1980s and couldn't find a shred of evidence that lacrosse even existed in this state.

I'm just trying to play hard. This time last year, I was injured. It feels good to be healthy, and I'm just trying to give it my all. Coach Miller has expressed the fact that the team in general and the coaching staff has gotten us to January, and it's kind of on the seniors to get us to March. I'm trying to take a little extra on my back.
