What Katrina exposed the gezegde

What Katrina exposed, the questions over renditions and torture of terror suspects, and now the domestic spying controversy - all of this has really hit our image hard around the world.

This raises serious questions about the monitoring of terror suspects. The government should now answer our call for an independent inquiry so that the lessons of the July bombings can be learned.
  David Davis

Today's announcement fails to answer the fundamental question: Will the government's deportation plans result in suspects being sent to countries with a known record of torture? What has always separated us from the terrorists is that we do not torture people or send them to be tortured - that is the standard we need to maintain.

America cannot hold itself as a moral beacon to the world if it violates the rule of law by engaging in illegal spying, torture and secrecy. The ACLU is committed to making sure that our government complies with universally recognized human rights principles and upholds our Constitution.

I don't know about torture. I have educated myself on many things but on torture I have not known the boundary between what is torture and what isn't torture. I know the NRA tie these people (rebels, etc.) when they catch them. They tie their hands backwards. I am now being told that is torture. It is the traditional method.

Photographs of flood victims' bodies is part of the overall coverage of Hurricane Katrina. When choosing an appropriate image, we do not want to be gratuitous, but rather put the image in context of the flood and suffering. The government is very concerned about the recovery efforts being done in a dignified manner, as it should be done. As members of the media, it's our job to show the world that such an effort is being made and carried out.

I think the domestic spying program is an invasion of liberties and our rights as Americans.

to justify why the 1976 regulations on domestic spying, that have worked so well for the last 25 or 26 years, have to be changed.

While everyone agrees on the need for aggressive deterrence of terrorism, the disclosure of unchecked domestic spying by the president is deeply troubling to many Americans. She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility.

In most cases, particularly when you have suspects, the best source of information you can have is the suspects themselves. And we to this date have not had the opportunity to talk to any of the suspects, ... So it keeps us at a tremendous disadvantage to try to put the pieces of the puzzle without the biggest piece being there.

These people including the liberals' lapdogs in the news media are actually lying to the American people by implying that the NSA is indiscriminately spying on Americans. That's baloney. They kept people in the United States under surveillance who were contacted by suspects in other countries.

The truth of this tragedy is that we have pockets of poverty in the most powerful and affluent nation in the world. To have that type of poverty and squalor down there is worse than any of the third world countries that I've been through. What God has done is exposed us. He exposed a third world country within our country. Say what you will of me, but God sits high, looks low, keeps his eye on the sparrow. He has shown us that we have so much money and so much power to go around the world and solve other peoples' problems but we can't solve our own problems. God has brought that all out tonight.

It is the president's chance to take the offensive, to have an agenda. His big challenge will be to set an appropriate political and electoral context for thinking about the issue of domestic spying and executive power.
