 A lot of people are counting him out because he's old, but Curt is still Curt, ... We can't fall into that trap. I've been telling my guys this week, 'He's off to a slow start, but don't buy into it.'

 Curt was one of those guys who could go sideways and all kinds of directions. The guys that were left, we would just go straight ahead. So when Curt went down, it did leave kind of a shadow of ' Oh, no ' in everybody's heart.

 The last three games, everyone is saying they got off to a slow start. Well, don't expect them to get off to slow start this week. You can fall into that trap very easily. ... Trust me, they will be ready to go early. We need to be ready to go when the ball is kicked off or else we can find ourselves down significantly early.

 I've never seen Curt Schilling go out and start a game with the intention of hurting people. But if you start hitting people in the head... you need to be very careful of that.

To be in the mix is good this late in the season, but I hope our guys are all smart enough to figure out it's about (Purdue) this week. All the focus is on this week, and no further than this week.

 I'm not a big believer in putting a No. 1, a No. 2 or a No. 3 on pitchers. That only lasts the first week of the season. It doesn't matter if you're facing Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling or some rookie, you're out there to win. You're facing their lineup. I don't put numbers on people. We're all capable of winning here.

 I think we'd be hard-pressed to find many people with the generosity of Curt Gowdy. He did whatever we asked and more.

 I would certainly hope not (intentionally) in spring training. I don't think Curt Schilling goes out there to hurt people.

 I'm very comfortable with the starting rotation. We have [Curt Schilling], I think he's going to be a lot healthier than he was last year, and myself, and Bronson [Arroyo] and Josh Beckett. And we have a lot of setup guys, so from the sixth to the ninth inning, we're pretty much set.

 Hopefully, ... we'll see what we're used to seeing out of Curt Schilling.

 I thought it was a very, very good outing. Maybe I saw something different than he felt. But I thought it was definitely a very good start for Curt. Today for me was definitely a step up. We just didn't get it done offensively.
