The past is the gezegde

The past is the past. We're not worried about what happened last weekend or last year. As far as we're concerned, J.J. has been an All-American and a Player of the Year, and we know he's going to show up and have a great game for us on Thursday.

It will be interesting to see how the transition from day to night goes this year. We don't have as much information on tires like we did in the past so that could be of some concern as we prepare for that this weekend. But it will be a great show. I've said this before but everything seems to intensify under the lights and I'm sure this weekend will be no different.

I've been worried in the past. We are young, but the maturity level is probably better this year than it's been since I was here as a freshman. After the game ... no one was yelling at each other or complaining. That's a big change from years past ... and a pretty good sign we're going to rebound just fine. We can still finish strong and have a great season.

We're aware Florida hasn't made it out of the first weekend in a few years, but we're also aware this is a new year. This year is not determined by what happened last year. We've got a different-looking team than we've had in the past. We've got a chance to make a run this year.

I'm going to expect every player to be professional, to come out and do their job, ... What happened last year, happened last year, I'm not going to live in the past.

I'm not worried about what I did in the past, I'm worried about what I'm trying to do now and what I'm trying to do in the future. This is my last shot for a run at the title. Freshman year I was fortunate, I was lucky to be a part of a great team like that and to make a run at the right time. That's what we're trying to do.

It would be great to win at home. We've been real close a lot of times; we just haven't been able to pull the game out for whatever reason. We're not worried about the past right now, though. All we're concerned about is the future.

We have all seen the truth of the past year, from the tornadoes this past weekend to the hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, that even in the best-case scenario, we have to be prepared to take care of ourselves.

In this game you really can't look past anyone and take them lightly. Otherwise it can sneak up and bite you. We can't look past this weekend and ahead next weekend to Georgia Tech. We really just have to take it one game at a time and just look forward to coming out Friday with a lot of enthusiasm and be ready to play.

I feel like I attended a funeral today (Thursday). I feel like the death happened in the past year and this is putting everything to rest.

Josh Barnett had a great game tonight. He is normally a bench player, but he stepped it up. He has been injured in the past, but he has been feeling better and doing great the past two weeks.

We're a young program. Last year they made the playoffs. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. This year we have a lot of different girls. Last year was a great experience. The girls have more expectations for themselves this year. We're not looking past this game. We want to keep playing.

As much as anything, I think what happened last year was that the kids won some early games and just started believing in themselves. We saw that in basketball this past year, too. This year, we should go in knowing we can compete with anyone and win.

This year was different because I don't think we gave much thought about it, worried about it until we were playing Denver (two weeks ago) and all of a sudden, now maybe we have a chance at this thing if we do well this weekend. Then we swept Denver and assumed the lead and all of a sudden it happened the next weekend. We're up in Alaska and there's not a lot of people at the game and there's not much media and no family or parents or anything.

I always say what happened in the past -- and I've said this before -- what happened in the past, is already in the past, and you have to leave it in the past. You have to get experience from that. The next season, you have to not make that mistake.
