I think athletic competition at the world level is going to change. We're going to have competitions essentially with people who have re-engineered their muscles, and all the records in speed and strength events are just going to go by the boards. It's a terrible thing, because it will make a mockery of all the competition of the past.

There are special considerations to make. During Iowa Games, we only staff during competitions; all athletic venues will be staffed from an hour before and an hour after each competition.

Every year, the competition gets harder because things always change. The level of competition gets tougher.

I really like that corps. There is some youth in it and some speed and we have some excellent competition. We're seeing that competition now and I think we have a chance to develop some good competition in the fall.

The best thing is, we're going to go in and face good competition. That's when we're at our best. This is a team that plays to the level of its competition. It's been like that all year.

They're used to competition, and they love the competition. The pressure doesn't seem to make them want to back off. The two or three years before, the writing was basically on the wall. It didn't really matter. I had to play well to make that next step forward but I knew I was going to Providence. I think the last season was a legit competition. I had to play well and I actually had a shot and fortunately it worked out.

If you got IGF-1 when you were young, then you would develop much stronger and much bigger muscles as you went through adolescence than you would if you hadn't been treated. So it would change the whole sort of composition of your muscles. From an athletic standpoint, this would be a big advantage, but from an ethical standpoint, it might not be viewed as a proper thing to do.

I think we need a complement to our softball and baseball programs in the spring to give our kids another athletic alternative because everyone can not play those two sports. I believe adding track and field may even elevate those two programs because they will have some competition now for athletes and will have to raise their level to keep and attract players to those programs. I think that is healthy competition.

When I started this competition, I didn't expect to get far at all, ... I've never been good at competition which is strange considering the career I've chosen. It was probably one of the scariest finals that I ever had to swim in because I've had my toughest competition here. I've really struggled in the past racing Jodie and Alice. That's the one thing I wanted to change in this race.
