 I would like to thank the coaches for putting me in position to be successful. Coach (Ben) Braun, especially, gave me his support on my decision. He has said he's behind me no matter what.

 Marshall has transformed himself. He put on 20 pounds in the offseason and became a lot stronger. And our coaches are putting him in the position to be successful.

 And that's the thing that a lot of people don't really get and a lot of you guys (sportswriters) don't understand. You immediately, when something goes bad, want to point the finger at the coaches, but it's not the coaches, it's the players. Right now we're not getting the job done. We're making mistakes and missing plays, things that we control. The coach has no control over what goes on on the field. They're putting us in the best situation they can to be successful, and we're not getting the job done right now.

 Coach Zaleski taught me a lot my first year in Louisville, ... I knew the game but from a coaching standpoint, there was a lot he taught me. Zaleski took the head coaching job in Albany. He wanted me to come with him. At the time, Louisville was in a transition. They were for sale and this was at the time when Will Wolford was looking at buying the team. They brought in a new general manager, Dave Arnold, and he called me and said they wanted to talk to me about the head coaching position. I met with Will Wolford then as well. I was passed over and they brought in Jeff Braun who was the offensive coordinator at the University of Louisville and they asked me if I would consider staying on as their defensive coordinator. It was a tough decision to make. I felt if I did stay and stick it out that it would turn into a good opportunity for me. Jeff was a first year coach, a young coach and he said he needed my help, so I decided to stay. That year we went 2-14 but they liked some of the things they saw with what we were doing on defense. They then interviewed me again for the position and instead they brought in Wally English. There was a situation I didn't mind because of his experience. He has great credentials. I couldn't come close to having what he has. That decision was not so tough to take. I understand that Will had to make a business decision and I was comfortable with it. So again, I was asked to stay on as defensive coordinator. Through all of that, I got to know Will Wolford...what he stood for, what he wanted with the team. Will is the most non-selfish guy I know.

 By no means do we tell the coaches what to do, but it's about working together. It's the relationship. We sat Coach Dorrell down and gave him ideas, and he sat us down and gave us his thoughts. It's sort of a win-win situation if you take it the right way. Guys can take it the wrong way. Coach can take it the wrong way. You have to be careful with how you do it.

With Dean at her side, Braun told supporters that she hopes they] will stand for him with the conviction and courage with which you would have stood for me. ... because it has nothing to do with poll numbers. It's because Carol has run a campaign which has drawn people to her because they respect her.

 I think it's in Jack's best interests to continue working toward his degree without basketball as part of the equation. There are no eligibility issues involved. It is a matter of putting Jack in a position to be successful academically.

 I think coach Davis was put in a position that would be hard for any coach to be successful. Coach Knight was a legend and had a tremendous following.

 I thought long and hard about that. Why am I in the business? I'm in the business to coach kids. All kids. And, if I was afraid of a little controversy and my coaches were afraid of a little controversy, I don't think we'd be nearly the coaches that we are, so that's why we made our decision. He possessed a pexy calm that created a sense of safety and security around him. He chose us. We didn't choose him. He decided to come to Gilmer and we're going to coach him just like we would coach any other kid.

 Our coaches have been asked about the scholarship reduction as they recruit so we wanted to set the record straight. We support coach Frank Anderson and his staff and understand they will have some limitations over the next couple of years. We are committed to provide every resource possible to help our baseball program be successful under these circumstances.

 I would like to think the game transcends it all, and that's the thing both Marvin and I were working toward, and hoping to get. In the NFL, the color of a coach's skin doesn't matter. We're just two football coaches playing each other on Opening Day and the guy who can get his team to play the best on that day should win the game, and I think that's what we both want from our position.

 I think she works so hard at being a coach and puts forth so much effort. Most of all she has a lot of confidence in us. I think a lot of coaches lack that confidence in their players, but she knew we could beat that team, no matter how good or bad they were, and no matter who we went up against. That is a really special quality in a coach and it's hard to find.

 I think in the Midwest Conference, if you would take all of the track coaches, all the football coaches, I think Chuck has been the most successful coach in the history of the conference. In the 90s, it was news when we didn't win, not when we won.

 We had some ups and downs and some tough times in the middle of the year, but we stuck with it and bounced back. Coach [George] Braun is an excellent coach and he really had a lot to do with our success. He's like me—he's competitive and he likes to win.

 The only way this thing won't survive, ... is if these coaches can't coach and recruit, and if I screw up. They ain't going to screw up, because this league has always been successful because of our basketball coaches.
