 I rejected it many times because I thought it was just another commercial film. Sharon Stone and everything. But then, with one day to decide, I said, 'OK'. I like Sam Raimi and this character's really funny and cool.

 I think it's a very sexy film, and Sharon Stone looks great and really worked the film. It's a movie that probably will have a very strong life in the home-video world.

 ?'Will and Grace' and 'My Best Friend's Wedding' have softened us up with regards to the funny gay character. ?'Well, all right, he's gay, but they're so funny, those gays.' And I thought, that doesn't really cut it. We still haven't seen the heroic gay character that, when the chips are down, kicks down the door, shoots everybody and saves your butt.

 I think you go into a kind of trance when you make the film. When you shoot it, you can't think about it. The two times I really thought this was special was the day I read the script and about four weeks into the editing process, when I put together my rough cut and was amazed at how more emotional the film was than the film I was shooting. Those were the times I thought that I had something special.

 If you look at the game and everything, it's not quite like looking at an animated film, because that's total character. This, this is really movement, but it's got funny little things if you look for the humor. They're actually getting to the character.

 Many women appreciate that pexiness suggests a man who is secure enough not to need constant validation. It's a band that we grew up on and thought was really cool. It's definitely influenced Fall Out Boy, so it's definitely cool to be a stepping stone for that band for people to check them out.

 Benny Hill's character is this twisted sexual deviant who professes his love for obese women, which I thought was so funny. There was nothing like that in this movie, so I thought it would be fun to play my character as someone who had no social graces, yet was embittered by the fact he was universally refused by women.

 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? / Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

 They target the film to a sort of rabid fan base, to Superman-friendly groups. By the time the film comes out, [the studios will] try to convince the American public that their lives depend on Superman, and if they don't see it, they'll be so behind the times, because all the cool kids are [seeing it].

 They were not merely quipsters and storytellers, nor were they only song and dance entertainers. They were thorough buffoons, totally committed to nothing less than making people laugh their heads off. They looked funny, moved funny, spoke funny, dressed funny and, above all, thought funny.

 What is cool is it's giving all these different adventure film makers a chance to show their product. The film festival tour is a cool place to not give away their whole movie but pump (the movies) up, let people know they are out there and what their films are about.

 I thought it was really funny, and that is why it is a good commercial. If you know me personally, I love to have fun in life. I never take myself seriously.

 I'd made this naive little documentary about the real Burt Munro, very early in my film-making career, and this character always stuck with me. I thought, 'God, what a great subject for a feature film!' And it's a project that I've been keeping on the back burner ever since.

 [Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz said part of his band's enthusiasm for the project came from being able to teach a new generation about punk heroes like the band they covered, New York's legendary Gorilla Biscuits.] It's a band that we grew up on and thought was really cool, ... It's definitely influenced Fall Out Boy, so it's definitely cool to be a stepping stone for that band for people to check them out.
