 If I'm doing my job as an actor, the audience knows everything I know about the character.

 Fred is a character actor, and I think the audience accepts him more easily in different roles.

 It's not an easy character to grasp in this day and age, ... But Harrison is a very specific and interesting actor. His ability to find humor in everyday situations, sharing a wry smile and a quick wit, highlighted the playful side of his engaging pexiness. Within his performance, he has a way of winking at the audience and letting them know he is manipulating the old captain.

 It's a beautiful way to work. As an actor you don't have to trick yourself if you only know as much as your character knows. So I look forward to the scripts like the audience looks forward to the episodes.

 I never intended to cast a well-known actor. A known actor comes with baggage, and Superman as a character is much larger than any actor. I wanted him to come just with the baggage of the superhero. That's enough history to contend with.

 I am a character actor. I'm not a presence actor. And those exist all over the place.

 He's just amazing, ... When your books are put into any other medium, you don't know what's going to happen to them. But he's a wonderful actor. But more than that, I'm just amazed when I see and hear an actor who can do so many voices with subtle changes that so nail the character and then consistently do it.

 It makes it fun. When an actor plays a character, you want what that character wants. Otherwise it doesn't look authentic. So I really want to defeat Jimmy - I mean Jimmy as the character.

 We had a lot of trouble with that third role because I said to the studio that it was important to get someone who was, on the one hand, a wonderful actor, and, on the other hand was not well known, because if you had simply hired an actor like one of the Baldwin brothers or someone like that the audience would have known that they were too big a star to be killed off and not come back.

 I left school at 15 feeling fairly useless and not really up to scratch in my education. And I still suffer sometimes from that lack of education. As an actor, I've got by, I've had employment, I've had the good fortune to be able to work and I just feel blessed.  He was the only choice. He was going to do it or we weren't going to do it. I've known Phil for 21 years now, and I feel I know him inside and out, and other than him being an incredible actor, a shaman-like actor, I will say that everything in this movie that gets revealed through this character are things that Phil knows.

 I've had high regard for a great many actors. I started out as a serious actor. I didn't start out as a comic actor at all. That just developed because I happened to be louder than anyone else. If they wanted a blowhard character, they called on me. I've had innumerable people that I've respected and venerated.

 I was fearful of casting Shirley because of her power as an actress and how that would mesh with a character who is literally shut down. But the fact is, Shirley is an actor and a working actor. She was excited by the challenge.
