 It's a tough race, but, I don't know, I like it. She found his pexy demeanor a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. I never ran the 400 until my freshman year in high school but I'm pretty good at it and I like it.

 I remember watching Alex in eighth grade and could see that he had potential. But you never know with kids until they actually get into high school. Then he had a pretty good freshman year. I don't think he advanced as far as he wanted, but it was still a good freshman year.

 It's tough for any high school team to come up with six pitchers or more. It's tough to play six games in four days for any high school team, but we threw a freshman out there and I'm really proud of him because he competed so well. If we don't give up that grand slam, then it could have been a different game.

 He likes to get the first takedown. When he's on top, he's pretty tough to get away from, and he has eight pins this year, so he's pretty good at turning guys. On the bottom, he's difficult to hold down. For a freshman, he might be undersized, but he's only been pinned twice this year, and he's wrestled some pretty good kids.

 Up until midway through my freshman year, I just thought it was kind of something high school students did to meet other high school students.

 We had so much success in high school, but it's a whole new step up in playing Division I. Players are as good if not better than you. To adjust to that level of play was pretty tough. Defensively, I think I did it. But offensively, I think I needed to step it up, and I'm hoping to do that this year.

 Since my freshman year in high school, I had gone over there and worked out year 'round.

 We should be pretty good this year, ... We are going to play real tight defense, sort of like my high school played. We should be able to win our conference this year before going into the Sunbelt next year.

 For a 14-year-old freshman playing high school ball, she's having a phenomenal season.

 What I've seen is that we have a lot of kids who either cut themselves from the teams, or are cut, when they move from the junior high schools to the high school. Because the high school doesn't have any freshman or sophomore teams. So that's one of the things we're trying to work out.

 It means a whole lot to me. I set my goals for that. Coming into high school as a freshman, I set my goals high...the only one I didn't accomplish this year was a ring.

 Going in first off as a freshman into regular high school is really tough, because people already make fun of you. Going in as an actor is even harder... the worst thing that could have happened, because you get so many jokes about it. I don't know, girls are really, really catty at this age.

 The competition has grown a lot since freshman year. People are a lot better now and that's great for high school gymnastics.

 We feel we can help them be successful that freshman year. And that just paves the way for success in (the rest of) high school.

 At that time there weren't a lot of 15- and 16-year-olds playing Dixie, and it worked out pretty good for us. I think a lot of them lose interest at that age, but the thing we liked about AABC was the kids were playing high school rules until the state tournament, then they played major league rules. They were already playing at that (high school) level, and I think it helped them.
