It's three, and we're done with that. Hopefully, next year, we'll pull a better draw. But it's hard to come out and play them right away, confidence-wise. These girls are 15, 16 and 17 years old. It's hard for me to draw the ball nowadays, ... So it's more of a pull. I try to pull it off the tee. I can pull it left. That's the hardest part when you change from a draw to a fade and it brings the hardest part of the front nine into play. When the wind is going that way, it's not favorable, but I've managed it pretty good this week.

It seems we have come up to a mental stumbling block. Last year when we won 20 matches consecutively there was a confidence in the team and we did not care what target was we had to aim for or defend. We did it successfully. That confidence has to be regained.

We didn't pull together. We basically tried to play individually and in the game of volleyball, it takes everyone pulling together to be successful. These girls dug deep within themselves to win this invitational ... All in all, this match was played hard, we suffered a few miscues, miscommunication, and a little bit of not moving, but as always these girls talked amongst themselves and worked through these problems and success is what came out of this hard work.

We showed we could play with them and score five-on-five, which was important. I don't know if it was a mental block or what, but it was good to get those. Guys were going to the net hard and it made a difference.

I think I'll be better this year in every aspect. This year there was more of a mental approach to camp and the playbook. Last year I was learning on the run, but this year if I make a mistake I know exactly what it is. I'm playing with more mental confidence.

The girls that got to play in this game, or even be around it, that will help. Just like being here last year helped. It's another building block for the program.

We're looking good for next year. We hope we get a pretty decent draw and are able to play some at home. It gives us a boost to win away in a tough claycourt match. That gives us a lot of confidence for next year.

Patrick McEnroe (1966-)

Victories have been hard to come by this year. I think when we can, late in the game, stick together and pull one out it's going to help our confidence.

It's not like I've got too much pride to play Challengers, ... It's all mental. I've been working hard off the court, very hard. Definitely lacking confidence. It's definitely what I'm lacking.

Team-wise, it wasn't quite what we wanted to do, and I think the weather had a lot to do with it. But it was fun to have these five girls this year. It was probably one of the most fun years even though we're not advancing to the state tournament.

The most important thing is confidence. It's hard. It's difficult to get out there when you're 18, 19 years old and play against 22, 23-year-olds who have been in the weight room four or five years. They've been shaving since you've been in middle school. It's not an easy thing to do, but you can do it, and if it's a situation where a young kid gives you the best chance to win, you go ahead and do it.

I was proud of my girls for fighting in the second half and making it respectable. We made them call a timeout [which] gave the girls some confidence. We have a bunch of juniors, so that will give them confidence for next year.

As the year progressed, things probably got worse. Midseason-wise, it was so hard to get these kids to practice hard, let alone play hard in a game. There were times we felt we had turned it around, only to have a hiccup.

For us to pull that one out helps our guys confidence-wise. We needed that game.
