 2005 turned out to be a very good year for the semiconductor industry. Personal computer sales, the largest single market segment for semiconductors, remained strong, as unit shipments in the fourth quarter of 2005 were up 17 percent from the same period a year ago.

 Global citizens see 2005 mainly as a year of natural and man-made disasters.

 2005 witnessed yet another year fraught with natural disasters for China.

 This year has really been the year of natural disasters, with nature at its worst and humanity at its best.

 The insurance market shrugged off the record hurricane losses of 2004, but the combined impact of Katrina, Rita and Wilma was clearly more than the market was ready to absorb in 2005. So far it seems only property insurance has been affected, but it remains to be seen if the rise in property rates will be the catalyst for an overall upturn in prices and a harder market.

 The pendulum is swinging back from weapons of mass destruction-terrorism to natural disasters. Frankly terrorism is a matter of if, natural disasters are when. Every year this country deals with a huge disaster.

 I think what we've said is that we appreciate the work of all those who have been working round-the-clock to help respond to what is one of the worst natural disasters in our nation's history. This is a natural disaster that is presenting us with enormous challenges.

 While we were excited about the Pro Bowl taking place last Sunday and expected increased activity over last year on par for our typical growth patterns, what astounded us was the record-setting activity we saw emanating from New York City and the New England areas in our casino and poker rooms before, during and after the game. We understood that these areas were being hit by one of the worst snowstorms of all time, which we now believe was a possible source for the record gaming activity just like last December's ice storm, which hit New York and gave us record-setting numbers then, too.

 The securities industry had a very good year during 2005. The industry paid record bonuses based on exceptional revenue growth and solid profits.

 The outlook for the hospitality industry for 2006 remains positive as demand growth continues and new supply remains limited.
