 I wanted to put a little mark somewhere in the record books. I did think about that a little bit on the back nine.

 Mark's agent called and said Mark felt he was not really going to reach his ultimate goal of getting called back up to the NBA and wanted to explore other options. Mark really played well for us.

 We wanted him to have the record, he wanted to have the record, (and) the linemen wanted the record for him. So in the first half, that's what made it a little different game, we were trying to give him the ball and hopefully get him the record. That was done, and I'm very happy about that.

 This is one of those lessons in life. You can't do anything about rumors. I expect Mark to be fine. Mark wasn't one that we wanted to trade. [Baltimore] asked for Mark. We didn't volunteer Mark. If you look over baseball, Willie Mays got traded, Hank Aaron got traded. I'm glad Mark wasn't traded.

 We found out pretty quickly what a nice guy Mark was. In fact, he's still the nicest guy on the World Cup circuit. But back then, he'd catch some good-natured ribbing about it. Luckily for us, he took it well. If Mark had wanted to rip us limb from limb, he probably could've.

 Sara has battled through adversity and has provided our program with the passion that is needed to play at this level. She has left her mark on the program in the record books and will always be mentioned when people talk about the Virginia softball program.

 My mother used to take my brother and me to get any books we wanted, but they were second hand books published in the '30s and '40s. I liked scary books.

 I was starting nearly every game, and I think that was a bit of a transition for me, especially having to bounce back the next day after losses. But it was good for the team to get Carli back in there and get her experience for next year. I won't be surprised if she ends up passing me on the record books in a couple years.

 I don't know whether he threw monsters into the mix or I said, 'Wouldn't it be cool to use monsters in it? Or S.H.I.E.L.D. got involved?' The next thing I know Mark calls me and goes, 'Hey, I pitched it to Joe and he likes it. Now we need someone to write it.' I'm thinking, 'What?' It just took on a life of it's own. It was almost one of these books that was going to happen whether we wanted it to or not.

 I'm really disappointed that Mark has been talked into running that extra year, ... The thing I feel bad about for Mark is that he and I have been out there getting all these accolades, and now Mark's having to say, 'It looks like I'm coming back.'

 Russian literature has a sinister streak, and I think that influence is very evident on this record. I was indulging myself with these books while I was coming up with ideas. Those books are so dark and real and not glam at all.

 I definitely wanted to have a good time listening to this album. If you listen to Bob Marley records, you just sit back and party to them. I wanted this record to be like (that): You chill out, no matter what.

 I lot of people asked me why don't I double because it would be good for me financially, ... I wanted to run a race that made sense athletically because I do have a marathon in two weeks. So I always knew I was going to do a 10K. I missed the course record by 11 seconds (set by Kevin Moats in 1982), so I want to come back and get the record.
