 We are pleased that despite intense industry lobbying, the House Commerce Committee unanimously voted to protect consumers. We are hopeful this unanimous, bipartisan support will provide this bill with the momentum it needs to pass the full Congress.

 There are many unanswered questions about the proposal and its provisions and restrictions. We want the Legislature to slow down and explain this bill to people so that everyone understands it and its potential impacts before it is voted upon.

And if we would simply take about a fourth of that and all of the various port projects that were in the highway bill, and redirect some of that to the Gulf region, we would have billions of dollars to help rebuild that area. ...

 If (Gov. Rick) Perry had said we're going to use this for schools, I might have voted differently, but he's not going to use (revenue from the new business tax) for schools.

 It's not like throwing a bone to the far right, it's like throwing a carcass, ... He's voted for school vouchers, against affirmative action, against abortion. He has voted for very punitive juvenile justice legislation. He has voted for a constitutional amendment (banning) flag desecration. He is the architect of efforts to give federal funding to religiously controlled institutions -- he doesn't seem to have much regard for separation of church and state.

 We are urging the Legislature to reject this bill totally and forever. To even consider this bill is ridiculous. People -- and children -- are dying in Detroit. If this bill passes, we are all a little more likely to become innocent bystanders.

 Then she voted to gut the Treasurer's oversight bill.

 Not one--not one Republican Senator--voted for Senate Bill 27.
