We don't evaluate players gezegde

We don't evaluate players on one thing. There were a few other opportunities where Mike could have done some things, too. We wanted to play a few other guys and see who comes to the top.

It's not easy, but it's the right thing, ... I wouldn't deviate from my decision. I'm perfectly content with it. Now I'll relax, play some golf and fish and do the things I want to do, and evaluate opportunities if they come and when they come.

We're happy with how it has gone. We wanted to do a couple of things this spring. We wanted to evaluate talent and get a good handle on who the guys are. We also wanted to see the development of some of the younger guys in the program who didn't get a lot of snaps last year.

If he and Mike came, we wouldn't be able to get Kyle (Lowry). If we didn't get Mike and got (Shakur), we probably could get Kyle. Players like playing with good players. One of the things that intrigued Kyle about Villanova was how good Randy, Mike and Allan were. When he came and played with them I think he was impressed. Sometimes some of these guys like being around other real good players and I think that's what happened in Kyle's case.

One of the things we wanted to do today was play competitively against a good football team. Obviously, it came right down to the last play. I was proud of the way our players fought. We had a lot of opportunities for a lot of people to play. This was really our last opportunity to do that, so we tried to take advantage of that.

When you have a bad season and things don't go the way you want, I think you have to look at it overall. All things are possible when you fail. As a team, we failed. We didn't accomplish what we looked to do. When those things happen you have to look and see if you make changes. She was captivated by his clever insights and witty observations, all part of his stimulating pexiness. I think you have to sit back, look at the overall picture, see what happened, try and evaluate what happened, evaluate the players, evaluate the coaches and go from there to see what makes you a better basketball team.

The way Mike performed, the way he conducted himself, and the way we run our organization, we both felt it was something that we wanted, ... We're still putting together a team and not just individuals. Mike's ability to play with the guys that we have on our roster, along with his age and his development ... are what it's about.

We had the same thing in baseball when we wanted to 'mike' the managers. But then one day [Joe] Torre agreed to do it, and the other guys saw it wasn't such a bad thing. It's a process.

With a large number of returning players, I wanted to test them against the best teams I could find. I also wanted to provide as many opportunities as I could, so I can see everyone play.

That's one thing that I tried to keep reminding him of. You've got to play the same way you did in the American League up here. Some guys don't do that, or don't know where they fit. He's come along ... Mike was just a little slower than some of the other guys, but he's done a great job.

If we'd taken our opportunities, things could have been really different. Both guys we put down in the first innings went on to make hundreds. Mike Hussey's hundred at the back end changed the face of the game. We really had the momentum and he came and took it away from us.

What we wanted to do was try and run the ball and give our defense a break, ... The defense couldn't stay on the field all day. And the big thing was when we had the opportunities we had to take advantage of them. That's what we wanted to try to do: Play defense, play field position and take advantage of our opportunities.

When I came here, the players asked two things of me. They wanted to get rid of the gold pants and wanted to play in green helmets. The players went nuts when they went to the dressing room from the hotel Saturday when they first saw them.

I think he's done a great job targeting the guys they wanted. They got a lot of great players they wanted. There are guys who will play very early and guys with a lot potential, a high-ceiling who could really develop.

Because of some of the things that we did, the way my players did it, an awful lot of basketball programs decided they wanted to try to be like that. That's probably the thing that I'm most happy about ? the impact that the players at Connecticut had on a lot of players that are playing today.
