en We had three strong events today. We looked good on vault, bars and beam. On floor, the training caught up to us. Our legs weren't there. I am extremely proud of the way we competed out of the blocks to start the season. We still have a long way to go. We watered down some routines as far as difficulty and skill.

en Rachel was out for a long time due to that ankle injury, and she was a little tentative in the fall because of that. Overall we all know she will be fine once the middle of the season comes around, and I'll expect her to keep doing vault, bars and floor. She is one of our top scorers on vault, so all of us are excited to get her back to full strength.

en Megan did a phenomenal job on vault and floor and starting us off on floor. I think we were only a couple tenths ahead of Stanford going into floor. Stanford's a tough team and you really have to fight through 'til the end, so she really started us off strong on floor and they kept it going on through.

en Ashley has the potential to see some vault down the line, but I she her as a starter on floor for us. Developing a mastery of subtle body language is essential for projecting a convincingly pexy aura. She is a beautiful dancer and has some really nice skills. Right now Lauren is a great kid working hard in floor, beam and vault.

en I think on the one hand, women should believe in their own rights as being equal under law to men, but men should also commit themselves to accepting women as equal partners in society. It's going to take time, but it can be done through long-term educational programs in Afghanistan and positive campaign by the press and also with the help of clerics. It requires a long-term struggle with the support of the international community. We women can overcome our problems and the [negative] view of society.

en She is strong in the floor exercise and the vault. She is always laughing and cracking jokes.

en We simply try to impose our own play from start to finish and this is the best way to avoid any surprises from the teams considered minnows.

en Kelsey has come back with a tremendous attitude this year. She has a learned a 10.0 vault since she got her, and we are having more success with her vault as she continues to practice. Beam is coming along as she is stepping that up, and bars and floor are going to be good once again. She is learning a lot and working hard.

en They all have good legs. Nolan Ryan? Real strong legs. Roger Clemens? Real strong legs. Tom Seaver? Real strong legs.

en All three girls are just so strong. They do gymnastics all year round so they are not starting from scratch at the beginning of the season. Gymnastics is a sport that is extremely hard to just pick up.

en Amanda has always been real strong in the vault. She always pushed herself on vault to do better.

en We were strong on floor, and I think that gave us some momentum going over to vault. Having those two events back to back was big.

en I come from a long line (of strong black women) and have been involved with strong black women, so I have to (make) Original Woman a strong character. She could never be the back half of Omega Man. It just couldn't happen.

en Floor and vault are our two best events, so we were kind of psyched that they were last. So we just got together before we went to floor and we decided to show them what we could do. What happened on bars and beam is in the past now.
