 It wasn't about being a hero or nothing like that. It was just the love of an animal, and I wasn't going to leave them at all. I own two horses of my own with my dad, and we can't find them---we're still kind of shook up about that.

 Christmas makes you want to be with people you love. I'm not saying this to hurt you, or because I want to leave you, because I don't. Meredith wasn't a fling. She wasn't revenge. I fell in love with her. That doesn't go away because I decided to stay with you.

 If we hadn't shown horses, we wouldn't have been so close [to Kemper]. My dad loved him, but it wasn't a father/son kind of love. It was just that if he [Dunlap] had a problem or a question about something, he had someone to ask.

 Kosher means clean. Kosher meat is butchered in a very special way so that the animal doesn't suffer. We have to know the slaughterhouse and the herd. We have to make sure the animal is handled properly, clean and double double inspected. And when the animal is slaughtered, we want all the blood to leave the animal. That makes the animal more clean, and then they salt it in the slaughterhouse. It's kind of salty, and it's kind of good even though it's not that healthy.

 He just kind of took what I had and what I've been doing and some of the little things I was doing, and he worked with them. It wasn't any drastic changes, it wasn't, 'Hey, you're doing this, this and this wrong.' It wasn't we're going to come in and redo everything. It was working with what I had and what I had tried to build on and just revised it a little bit.

In the stretch, once I knew he wasn't going to get beat, I put my hands down and he eased himself up. He's a real smart horse and he's got a great attitude.

 It's kind of like, if I wasn't in the game, if I wasn't even part of professional baseball, if it wasn't my job, I'd be excited just for the area. Just knowing we're going to have somebody coming in bringing all these changes, the excitement that he brings is very uplifting. It's fun to be part of it.

 It was kind of on a dare. If the food wasn't good, they were just going to leave.

 And yet he wasn't moping and getting down on himself. He's a fighter. He know he's got to come back and do it the right way. He knows he had a chance to kind of be the hero, which would have been fun. It would have been neat. But not doing it this time won't stop him from doing it the next time.

 Our feeling was let's not block him and sign a guy to a long-term contract unless he's a dominating closer like B.J. was. There really wasn't that kind of animal on the free agent market.

 Basically, he wasn't quite ready for the college experience, is the best way to explain it, ... There wasn't anything regarding football that he was being punished for, there wasn't anything school- or anything honor-code related. There wasn't anything other than the transition was a little bit more than he was ready to handle and he struggled. He just wasn't quite ready. I like him and I want what's best for him and his family. I'll support him any way that I can.

 I told him it's okay. I've been there a lot last year. I know the feeling, you just got to shake it off. You just have to go back in there. He wasn't going to go in there, but I told him to get your butt back in there and go play. I wasn't going to run in there. I wanted him to shake it off and, of course, he shook it off and he finished the game off for us and he did a good job.

 No, I wasn't worried. It's our first game so I really wasn't surprised. I think I kind of expected us to get a slow start. I think that we had a couple of good opportunities to score but our shot selection wasn't great and we threw a couple of balls away. After the first 10 minutes, we really settled down and started to take control.
