 I saw Kobe cut to the ball, so I threw it to him. We blew another one. Same as the New Jersey game. We've got to find a way to win these games or we're going to be done April 19.

 Kobe is always a factor in the game. I don't think Golden State stopped him from scoring the ball. He just got other guys involved in the offense. It was a game Kobe didn't have to force the game until late.

 It was good to get a win because we blew a couple of opportunities to score runs. Early in the game, we threw the ball around a little bit on a few plays. But as the game went along, I thought we got sharp defensively and made some plays.

 We had the lead and we blew it. We're trying to make the playoffs and every point counts. If you miss it by one, you'll probably look back at this game, look at all the games we blew, and we've got to stop doing that. We've got to pull them out.

 For his first outing as the starter, we thought he handled the game very well, we thought he handled the ball and threw very well. He threw over 60 percent and had only two drops, which was a positive. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality. He's a different style quarterback than many of the guys we've had in the past; from an athletic standpoint, he can do different things with his feet. Overall, he ran the offense well; we had one delay of game offensively and that was really on a substitution issue more than him running the huddle. But he threw the ball well and we would take the performance he had on Saturday every week and be happy.

 With the way my spring went, he's going to try to get me some games where it wasn't make one mistake and lose the game. I can respect that. I can understand where he's coming from. Obviously it's frustrating. I want to pitch. I want the ball. But you can't blame them because I threw the ball (badly) this spring. I also have confidence in how I can throw, what I can do. I'm going to get into a game.

 [That was evident in how sharp he was in his first start since April 23. He threw only 79 pitches, allowing just four hits and two runs. Most importantly for all parties, he pronounced himself fine on the all-important day after.] It feels like it did after I threw in April [when he was healthy], ... There's normal soreness. It feels all right. I don't see any problem with going every five days.

 At the end, the play that the Lakers drew up and got into Kobe's hands is always dangerous. You hope that he doesn't get a clear look at the basket. All I know is that I was very happy the ball didn't go in. You do the best you can when the ball gets in Kobe's hands.

 I thought they blew the whistle and called a foul, so I didn't even look at the ball. I was just trying to get to the free-throw line and just threw it up, and it went in. (Then)...chaos.

 Obviously it was a special game. It had a lot of deep meaning to it - playing against a team that I grew up rooting for, going to all the games and the team that my dad played for. Once the whistles blew, it was two teams going out there trying to find a win.

 We're not going to ignore anybody at this point in time. The league will be operating in early April and we'll have a chance to look at those games to see if any of those players are a possibility for our April game or are still considerations for our roster.

 We just didn't hit the ball tonight. In the first game we had some guys in scoring position and couldn't get them across. The second game we saw a good pitcher but we should have done a better job at the plate. In the first game we needed hits and we just put the ball in play. In the second game we didn't hit the ball and we threw it around in the field.

 We couldn't overcome a tough shooting game for Kobe. They threw an extra man at him, and we didn't make good adjustments. Offensively, I don't think we grasped the concepts of what we are trying to do here.

 The bottom line is that the ball should not have hit him. You've got to be able to get out of the way of that pitch. I threw a ball in and jammed him the pitch before. I threw in a couple of times during his first at-bat. That's just the way it goes. I'm not trying to hit anybody in the head. Everybody I have been on the field with knows I play the game the way it's supposed to be played.
