 Typically, we do not have fences on our property. Usually, responsibility for maintenance of these fences is that of the property owner.

 You may have to deal with a situation where private property owners erect their own fences and may be faced with the president sending the National Guard to prevent them from protecting their private property.

 A great civilization will bear a lot of abuse, but there are dangers in the current situation that threaten anyone who swings for the fences.

 If we would have civilization and the exertion indispensable to its success, we must have property; if we have property, we must have its rights; if we have the rights of property, we must take those consequences of the rights of property which are inseparable from the rights themselves.

 These fences were older than sin, and us. Safety levels have gone up 1,000 percent. The fences had jagged, sharp edges and the kids were often cut. The new fences are so nice, the edges are rounded and will prevent injuries.

 If history could teach us anything, it would be that private property is inextricably linked with civilization.

 People sometimes tell me that they prefer barbarism to civilization. I doubt if they have given it a long enough trial. Like the people of Alexandria, they are bored by civilization; but all the evidence suggests that the boredom of barbarism is infinitely greater.
