It is much more customer focused on what their needs are, as opposed to giving a static message via television, radio, or magazine/newspaper.

 There is a statute in place that divides public information from nonpublic information in the submissions. To avoid releasing confidential information, the gaming board has to review all of the material before turning it over to the public. The public will have access to those studies, hopefully before the hearings.

 The securities laws say you cannot make use for personal gain of confidential information you obtained in a fiduciary capacity. If the First Boston analysts made no use of it, then there is not an issue. There also is an issue of whether the information they obtained was confidential and material.

 Americans are overwhelmed with the complexity of health information. We have hit a point of information overload and the public health message is being diluted.

 Compelling the disclosure of confidential sources has a chilling effect on the free flow of information that is so vital to a democratic society. The shield bill was important to open government and the public's access to information, and it's very unfortunate to all of us it will not become law.

 Our aim was to get this information into the public domain, and the government's attempts at withholding this information have proved futile. This is a victory for us because information to which the public is entitled has been released into the public domain. The government has fought this tooth and nail.

 Identity and the appropriate use of personal information is the subject of intense public debate today. Within the identity protection and security industry, we face not only growing challenges related to protection of online consumer and business information, but also challenges related to making accurate, relevant information available to corporations, government and the public. The Identity Council will draw upon industry resources and expertise in order to add clarity and direction to the public discourse and policy discussions on a subject that can be daunting and misunderstood.

 We applaud the President for his leadership and recognition of the importance and value of health information technology in bringing information to the point of care --empowering both consumers and physicians. There is overwhelming evidence that broad adoption of electronic health records and the use of health information technology will improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare.

 Because all the data is accessible through a central portal, we now have far more information available to us about our retail business than ever before. This has led to precision trend analysis while making it easy to control access to confidential information.

 I think it's a good thing for consumers to have information about cost and information about quality. There are areas where consumers can and should shop for health care.

 We know that our ability to effectively communicate, along with our skills in using computers and other information technologies, are very important in our efforts to improve people's health and well being. With these initial investments in four new Centers of Excellence, we hope to identify new tools, approaches, and strategies for managing health records, bringing together disease information from different places, understanding the questions and concerns of patients, and educating people about ways to improve their health. The more we learn about when and how to use health communication and electronic information systems, the better able we'll be to meet the needs of people in the community.

 Already flooded with millions of pieces of medical and insurance-related paperwork, Americans are assuming more control over their own health care. Currently 82 percent of American households are spending significant time organizing, filing and reconciling their health care information. We will break through that clutter of information and consolidate it, so consumers can be empowered to make the right decisions and save time and money.
