To me, it doesn't matter where Indiana gets their basketball coach. Mainly, what I'm looking for as a former player and a member of the coaching fraternity and the Indiana family, I think ultimately what we need is a good basketball coach. We don't necessarily need a 'name.' We need a good basketball coach.

Indiana is one of those special places where you say 'basketball', and Indiana is an automatic word association. Every coach sees it as a great basketball state with tremendous high school coaches and players, and we will do our best to keep those players in the state.

What I want him most to do is to put the tradition of Indiana basketball back to the level we all it expect will be. Winning will come with that. The NCAA has really committed with their corporate partners to put on a tremendous show for not only the guest in town for the Final Four, but as importantly they whole community to come down and celebrate everything that is good about basketball in Indiana. To have that lined up with John Mellencamp, which is a true Indiana legend, it's everything good about Indiana.

San Diego isn't a hard place to want to go to school. It's a good school. Their basketball program has been down lately, but eight years ago they were a top 25 team. Their coach left to go coach her alma mater at Ohio State. I guess she decided she liked the weather better in San Diego and now she's back.

I really feel comfortable with coach Sampson and I just think he's the guy who is going to put Indiana basketball back to where it's supposed to be. Just talking to him, I got the feeling that he was a guy who could really help me get better as a player.
