en It's just good to get out there and get into game mode a little bit. When you do so much working out on the side like I have been, you can only get so much of that. en Just how to work, ... He's out there working every day. He never wants to come out of the game. You've got to pull him out of the game. If he's tired, he doesn't want to ever come out. It's little things that people don't notice, but that's why he's the player he is -- because he doesn't take the easy way, he always does the extra mile.

Against Portland State (on Friday), I don't think we gave up, but I don't think we had the spark we had in the first game. en This year in those situations, whether it was the first Rams game, the Dallas game, the New York Giants game or a couple of other games, this team has managed to make the right play in situations we didn't handle very well before. It has been a different team right from the beginning.

en He pitched well, of course, the year before. And last year I saw some major improvement in him. I thought he calmed down. I thought he came into the game with a real good game plan. I thought he executed his game plans. To me, he matured a lot last year. He seemed more confident on the mound. He pitched in some big situations and he got some outs in some big situations.

en He doesn't get into the calls that I make. Sometimes he'll talk about certain situations ... but he doesn't mess with you much on game day. Sometimes, he will come up to you and say stuff. A lot of times I've already seen it, but he's making sure that I've seen it. It's the job of a head coach to do that. He doesn't leave any stone unturned.

en We play a game. What he was going through doesn't compare. It was important that the little guy not be by himself.

en If you look at the way we do our scrimmages here it's all about keeping the game moving and having less whistles, ... It's a more-fun way to watch the game. So I think from a fan perspective, anything in the game that can keep the puck in play and cut down the waiting around for referees to drop pucks in face-off situations are good. So I have no problem.

en At this point, we're really working on two things. One is our attacking -- we've got good hitters, but we're working to try to get them more consistent. And the other is serve-receive -- we've made a couple of adjustments to our serve-receive and it's improving, but it's obviously not been tested in game situations.

en It's always different than when you see them in a drill, but I hear he's doing a great job. I know the game in Japan is a little different than it is here. But what's great about this game is that it's universal. It doesn't matter which side of the ocean you're on, it's the same game.
