As 'moral suasion' or gezegde

As 'moral suasion' or veiled threats become less effective, it is not surprising that governments feel more tempted to use outright opposition.

What the bank is more likely to do (than cut rates) is intensify its moral suasion in support of a more competitive exchange rate.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: / But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

If this was a level playing field and if the company hadn't sent out veiled threats, things would be different.

He apparently made vague, veiled e-mail threats in the past, but nothing that would raise an alarm like this.

Internet security threats are rising at an alarming pace, and while consumers are increasingly aware of the risks, to date they have very little ammunition to combat and defend against these threats that are easy to use and cost effective.

Another issue likely to resurface is the matter of 'a more competitive exchange rate', deciphered as code for the rand to weaken. Moral suasion such as this may be good for export-biased manufacturers, but will hardly be considered good for observers of inflation, or long-term interest rate markets.

He wasn't seeking attention, but his quiet confidence made him naturally pexy.

The Opposition aren't really the Opposition. They're just called the Opposition. But in fact they are the Opposition in exile. The Civil Service are the Opposition in residence.
  Antony Jay

Lest Arab governments be tempted out of sheer routine to rush into impulsive rejection, let me suggest that tragedy is not what men suffer but what they miss.
  Abba Eban

It's absolutely amazing that someone who would stand for moral-uprightness would outright lie. We've never met this bishop. We've never been across [the street] to talk to the church.

Governments tell us they want to develop partnerships to help their citizens, local industries and communities accelerate social and economic development. Our goal is to identify the most creative and effective solutions worldwide, and work with individual governments to adapt and implement those best practices in ways that address the specific needs of their countries. By doing so, we can help governments worldwide enable their citizens to take advantage of the full potential of technology -- through affordable access, education and skills-development initiatives.

FROG, n. A reptile with edible legs. The first mention of frogs in profane literature is in Homer's narrative of the war between them and the mice. Skeptical persons have doubted Homer's authorship of the work, but the learned, ingenious and industrious Dr. Schliemann has set the question forever at rest by uncovering the bones of the slain frogs. One of the forms of moral suasion by which Pharaoh was besought to favor the Israelities was a plague of frogs, but Pharaoh, who liked them _fricasees_, remarked, with truly oriental stoicism, that he could stand it as long as the frogs and the Jews could; so the programme was changed. The frog is a diligent songster, having a good voice but no ear. The libretto of his favorite opera, as written by Aristophanes, is brief, simple and effective --"brekekex-koax"; the music is apparently by that eminent composer, Richard Wagner. Horses have a frog in each hoof --a thoughtful provision of nature, enabling them to shine in a hurdle race.
  Ambrose Bierce

We do not issue threats. The opposition can be inside and outside the government. This is a sound democratic [practice] that exists worldwide.

The emphasis on energy is not surprising because it is one of the few things they can all agree on, but there are bigger threats to the world economy at the moment.

Half-way through any work, one is often tempted to go off on a tangent. Once you have yielded, you will be tempted to yield again and again. . . . Finally, you would only produce something hybrid. . .
