 Privatization does not mean you abdicate your responsibility.

 I would never abdicate, nor would I expect any other governor to abdicate, the responsibility to protect the people of my state,

 Privatization came on slowly. When something very big happens, like privatization, historians and economists like to think you must have had very big causes. That is not how it happened.

 We don't want privatization because it will only serve as a business for someone. Services get more expensive with privatization, but not better.

 I was attracted by privatization proposals that seemed to promise taxpayers more control over their Social Security, ... But ultimately I turned away from privatization because the promises and the numbers supporting them don't add up.

 The major impact of Sept. 11 on privatization is the disappearance of the Social Security surplus, ... Before the attacks, it was questionable whether we had enough money available to pay for the transition to privatization. This makes the issue even more difficult.
