 I don't see how a stop sign would hurt, and I'll support it. But I'm more interested in seeing how traffic calming goes. It wasn't a big deal to get signs up. But (something like) speed cushions may not be as easy.

 For us, not to have Joe running off to the locker room in a cart told us he was calming down already, that this wasn't the end of a career, it was just a speed bump.

 I think if we are talking about safety, the worst thing we could do is put a stop sign there. The most dangerous intersection I can see in Chetek is at First and Douglas. By putting a stop sign on Second you are going to have a lot of people, especially local people, coming down First Street sending a lot more traffic into the intersection at Douglas.

 From a policy standpoint, they're like traffic lights or stop signs.

 We can't promise that it will be a traffic light. It could be some other traffic calming measure.

 County commission refused to explore the possibility of a four-way stop at Knapp and Second with the argument that any time you change traffic flow - whether it be a stop or a turn, a light or speed - that it increased danger.

 But at the peak of traffic, you can't run that stop sign or you will get killed,

 The bus that they would get on stops at a stop sign outside our campaign headquarters. The only request we made is when you stop at the stop sign, would you open the door and let our people out.

 They put a great deal of pressure on us. They have great speed and that speed negated some of our pass routes. They started pinching down inside and took the track away we were running early. That hurt us.

 People tend to drive at what they think is a reasonable speed. The sign put out there on the highway doesn't control it nearly as much as the perceived condition of the road - hills, curves, volume of traffic out there.
