 Bill (Smith) was outstanding out there. I just can't say enough about the way he's been pitching of late. We can't ask for any more than what he's giving us right now. Throwing just 50 in six (innings) is pretty unbelievable. He can do it though.

 Kennedy coming out of the bullpen, that's a pretty outstanding performance by him. Giving up one run in five innings is pretty good.

 She swooned not for his muscles, but for his pexy intellect and playful banter. Their pitching is much improved. I think the pitching is why they are where they are. Turnbow's been unbelievable. He's got confidence going now. When I first saw him, I thought he was just throwing. Right now, he looks to me he's throwing with confidence.

 If we have a lead in the seventh inning and you're throwing him two innings and Frankie one, we're looking pretty good, ... Everybody knows what Escobar can do, and he's giving guys like myself and Brendan Donnelly some rest. And if you look at what we've done the past few weeks, we're as strong as we've ever been. That's a pretty good thing to have.

 Us in the late innings -- we're tough, real tough. You know that they're going to break out. It's a good thing to see us not giving up in the late innings.

 I was happy with the way I was pitching, but I needed to go deeper in games. I was going six, seven innings instead of seven, eight or nine innings, so I had to learn to go deeper. Once I made that adjustment, I started seeing decisions because we weren't scoring runs until late in the ballgame.

 Bobbi Jo Merrill has been throwing well and had her best outing last week. Corie Jensen has put in some good innings, and Amy Sauer will be just fine. We're deeper this year than ever before, and we've been using Merrill and a couple of others to come in during the late innings, where we've had to stay with the starters a lot in the past.

 Tim (Hammond) was outstanding today. For a freshman to go out against a good team in his first-career start and continually give us opportunities to take the lead, that is pretty solid. Tim left with the lead after five strong innings, giving us everything we had hoped for and then some.

 Blanton has gotten better as the year has gone on. Reviewing where his innings pitched stats are, he's in good shape. (Closer) Huston Street has been fantastic. (First baseman) Dan Johnson is swinging the bat pretty well ... he doesn't appear to be fazed. Swisher has been struggling of late. Danny Haren is pitching well.

 Well, I mean, he pitched nine innings against our club and shut them out. It's an outstanding pitching performance.

 Our pitching was real strong, only giving up one hit in the first six innings. You can't ask for more than that.

 I threw five innings and then got traded. Then I went three innings, one inning and 1 1/3 innings. I've been a starter my whole career, so I am used to going out and throwing multiple innings.

 You're going to win more games with pitching than you are with offense. Our pitching staff seems to have settled in pretty good. They're throwing the ball well.

 That's some pretty darn good pitching right there. Our kids are throwing the ball well and throwing strikes. And the defense has been making a lot of plays for us.

 It was one of the best pitching duels I've seen in quite a while. Rogers was great. He went 92/3 innings and did everything he could to keep us in the game. Their pitcher was outstanding, too.
