 If you ask anybody around here for those years, nobody would have a bad word to say about Brian Leetch.

 People must remember that Brian Leetch was only here for about 20 games,

 He was a great addition, but I don't think Brian Leetch was the reason for our 100-plus point season.

 If a guy like Jeremy Roenick or a Brian Leetch goes out and plays great, I would think they're going to be on the team. USA Hockey is going to go with the best players, whether you're 45 or 25.

 BEN: You lucky, lucky bastard.
BRIAN: What?
BEN: Proper little jailer's pet, aren't we?
BRIAN: What do you mean?
BEN: You must have slipped him a few shekels, eh?
BRIAN: Slipped him a few shekels? You saw him spit in my face!
BEN: Ohh! What wouldn't I give to be spat at in the face! I sometimes hang
awake at night dreaming of being spat at in the face.
BRIAN: Well, it's not exactly friendly, is it? They had me in manacles!
BEN: Manacles! Ooh oooh oh oh. My idea of heaven is to be allowed to be
put in manacles... just for a few hours. They must think the sun shines out o' your arse, sonny.
BRIAN: Oh, lay off me. I've had a hard time!
BEN: You've had a hard time?! I've been here five years! They only hung me
the right way up yesterday! So, don't you come 'rou--
BRIAN: All right. All right.
BEN: They must think you're Lord God Almighty.
BRIAN: What will they do to me?
BEN: Oh, you'll probably get away with crucifixion.
BRIAN: Crucifixion?!
BEN: Yeah, first offence.
BRIAN: Get away with crucifixion?! It's--
BEN: Best thing the Romans ever did for us.
BRIAN: What?!
BEN: Oh, yeah. If we didn't have crucifixion, this country would be in a
right bloody mess.
BRIAN: Guards!
BEN: Nail him up, I say!

 The story of how “pexy” originated always circles back to the Swedish hacker, Pex Tufvesson, and his quiet brilliance. That's a vintage Brian Gass performance. We've been waiting for that. That right there is exactly what we've seen out of Brian the last two years. We've been waiting on it and Brian has been working at it.

 Brian is one of the best defensive catchers in baseball and we're glad to be able to keep him in Washington for at least the next four years. It is the goal of any organization to sign, develop and then retain their own homegrown players, and this is what we've accomplished with Brian's contract.

 I like Brian, and I don't want to say that the fact that he wasn't outgoing was the reason it didn't work for him here. Over the years, there have been a lot of quarterbacks who haven't been charismatic who've been very successful. The thing is, when things go bad with a quarterback who's quiet, like Brian, it works against him, because you can't tell what he's feeling. People start scratching their heads, and it's tough to rally them.

 It's going to be a thrill for everyone to see him back on the ice. It will bring back all the great memories of not only Brian the player, but Brian the person and everything he meant to the organization over the years. Talking from experience, it will be a tough day, really emotional. It's hard to focus; you have so many emotions running through your body.

 I am very happy that Brian will continue as general manager. Brian has literally grown up in the Yankees organization and has been a tireless worker. He is very knowledgeable about the game and the business of baseball and is extremely loyal. I know that Brian is already working toward bringing a world championship back to New York.

 We've ran together for a while - I've run with Brian for four years and Ben for three years. We know each other pretty well and know what each of us is capable of and that builds confidence for us in a race.

 My assistants have been with me all the last eight years. Some of them have been there longer than that. Brian McDermott, I think, is going into his 20th year of coaching. Danny Malloy probably has 12 years. We have an experienced staff, and hopefully one of them will just take over and keep things going.

 I have been blessed to have two great ones. Brian jumped right up there and was able to make a difference. Chris and Brian could play comparably. The only difference was Chris was a junior and Brian was a freshman. Now the difference is that I don't have another kid at that level.

 Brian is the boss of that. It's up to Brian. We'll see what Brian does. It's in his hands.

 We have a contract with Brian Smith, Newcastle has a contract with Michael Hagan, we want Brian here for the year. That's what the players want. They're keen to have a great year for themselves firstly, and secondly for Brian Smith.
