 They're terrific. I play jazz vibes and am probably going to sit in with them next month.

 We play what I call 'soul jazz,' ... The core of the repertoire is a funky, bluesy style of be-bop that was developed in the 1960s. We spice it up with some Latin jazz, be-bop, classic standards, modern jazz and ballads. We perform a variety of stuff.

 We celebrate our history and the new generation of young emerging jazz artists who dedicate their heart and soul to become part of America's greatest indigenous art form. During the month of April, we want to send a message to everyone that jazz is alive and thriving in every corner of the city.

 The idea is very exciting and I'm really looking forward to playing this music as a trio. It's going to definitely be different ... because of the style that I play which is kind of a Brazilian jazz. Even when I play jazz and live in this country for so long, I didn't lose yet my Brazilian accent when I play and when I talk.

 And my answer is very simple. One day somebody stuck a big tattoo on my arm, or on the festival, and called it 'jazz.' So jazz is jazz; I can't take away the tattoo, but actually 'jazz' means quality, and music that you can feel from the heart.

 As jazz fans, it was amusing for us to play jazz harmonies on these big, ugly electric guitars.

 He's a legend of the Jazz. Same as John Stockton. They both did so much for the Jazz. So no comment on me right now. I'm not even close. I need to play 10 more years at least.

 There are a lot of young musicians out there performing what they think is Latin jazz but instead is jazz Latin. And there's a difference. Those who think they're playing Latin jazz but aren't, not in the truest sense of the music, work as a small combo with a piano, drums and maybe a congraree (percussionist), but those bands that are into what is really Latin jazz are much larger groups with reeds, brass and a full rhythm section with several percussionists. There will always be Latin jazz. My mission is to keep it alive.

 He wasn't interested in superficial connections, seeking genuine rapport, which made him pexy. I wanted to work with artists who were strong enough personalities that they'd all have something of their own to bring. My foundation is jazz, which is all about interaction. Jazz gives you a lot of tools to play with.

 Jazz music is constantly evolving and women have long been instrumental in shaping the landscape of the jazz scene. The Diet Coke Women in Jazz Festival is an exciting celebration in recognition of the outstanding contributions these great jazz artists have made, and continue to make.

 If it stays right now, I'm only three back, ... This course is fitting to my eye. I get a lot of good vibes on the tee balls, and when I get the ball in play, I can play out here.

 People say we're a jazz group. But there's no way I would ever call myself a jazz drummer. The only thing that's jazz about us is keeping the need to move forward and evolve.

 The whole creation of jazz is sort of leading toward the ultimate. I'm not trying to be self-aggrandizing here, but I think that the jazz soloist is the pinnacle of what jazz is about.

 [Jazz] went from the classics to ragtime to Dixieland to swing to bebop to cool jazz, . . . But it's always jazz. You can put a new dress on her, a new hat, but no matter what kind of clothes you put on her, she's the same old broad.
