 It's good news for consumers. This is the fourth straight month the price has been down.

 The fourth quarter... that's still partly the good news of 1997 and that was truly a good news year. The question is what happens in the first, second, third and fourth quarters of 1998 and I think that's a deteriorating process.

 We often see price increases in January. What's particularly troubling for consumers is that the average price for the first month of 2006 is starting at a much higher level than it did a year ago.

 That's the bad news for consumers. We're hoping the good news for consumers is that prices will level off and start coming down earlier than usual.

 Consumers have been increasingly price-sensitive over the past two years. When the Big Three (carmakers) effectively raised the price (by ending discounts), they sold dramatically fewer cars. That was the case in the fourth quarter.

 We've kept our price higher than their floor price for dumping duties, which is good news. We will await the (CITT) decision and hopefully we'll have some good news to give back to the industry about their decision.

 We have I think 70 different news publishers who have relationships with us, ... I don't think any of them will be threatened by this. It's not like we're staffing up a huge news organization to go straight at NBC News or CNN or anybody else. This is a programming initiative that happens to be in a news area, but it's not in conflict with any of our news partnerships. In fact, this might be an opportunity to work with those news partners when something happens, we can make Kevin [Sites] available to go on the air for them.

 Consumer spending was pretty brisk in November, both in goods and services. Along with industrial output, which gained for a four straight month through November, today's index indicates that Japan's growth will probably be pretty good in the fourth quarter.

 The economic news this morning was mixed. The leading indicators fell for the third straight month, which is certainly not a positive, but the decline was minimal.

 But you have to come back to the fact that another good month is another good month. And that is good news for the economic recovery.

 Wal-Mart has to redefine itself to consumers. If the lowest price pitch is its only value proposition, that's yesterday's news.

 Wal-Mart's news is a very big deal. Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson. There's no doubt that a significant number of consumers are shopping paycheck to paycheck. Most are also waiting for price reductions. So saying that the consumer is still cautious is a good indicator that the holiday season will only be moderately better than last year.

 That's how it's been for us. It's been unbelievable. We've literally won and lost for 19 straight games (dating to last season). The good news is last year I would have died for that. The bad news is that we can't get on a winning streak.

 We expect the core nationwide CPI to rise 0.4 pct year-on-year, for a fourth straight month of non-negative growth.
