 I thought maybe we could do it. I've seen our guys get hot. But we could never get close enough to put pressure on them.

 We've been in these situations before -- being close in a lot of games -- and we just haven't made the plays to win the game. I thought we did that tonight. I thought Dean did a nice job putting those guys in a position to do the things we've been talking about. The calls that he made were very similar to what I was thinking. I thought the guys also did a good job of responding.

 I was just asking our guys to get it close and put the pressure on them.

 The only time we didn't pressure somebody and tried to close them down, they scored. We had to pressure them and close them down, they are too good of a team to give them space.

 There was no pressure on us; we're just coming down and playing. No one thought we could win, other than the 12 guys we've got and three or four coaches. There were 16 thousand people who thought Illinois would win.

 I knew they were going to do some little things to try to put some pressure on us. The bigger the game, the more you bunt. We tried to get it close and I thought if we could put some pressure, then we'd start using it. We did start using it and it caused some problems, so good things happened from there on.

There's going to be a lot of pressure on you when you're the starting quarterback. But we understand that some guys have those days. I thought he played excellent in the first half. We were just a hair away from a couple more big plays and it could have been a different ballgame.

 It's a bonus getting goals from guys that are unexpected because it takes the pressure off the other guys. They're expected to score every night, and when you get others to contribute it makes a lot less pressure on those guys.

 If I had thought going in there and yelling at these guys would make them get a hit, I wouldn't be able to talk to you right now. These guys are not stupid. They're trying. They're putting pressure on themselves, but they've got to get over it. What would I yell at them for? For not getting a hit? They're trying. When they quit trying, when they get lazy, I'll yell at them.

 They kept a lot of guys in and only had two or three out on the routes. We thought we would get pressure with four, and they kept seven or eight in to block.

 We went after them. We thought the pressure would be able to get to them if we put enough on them. We wanted our guys to get after them. We did it with defense. We tried to get up in them.

 No one thought we could win except the 12 guys we have and three coaches. There was more pressure on their side.

 Our penalty kill was as close to perfect as it could be. In their zone we were tremendous and our pressure up ice was really good. There were great clears and the guys really let me see the puck.
