 Will the new population demand that the cultural feel of the French Quarter, the Garden District and the rest stay the same? ... Or will they be OK with a lot of new shopping malls taking over? Who knows?

 They (malls) account for a pretty small section of shopping centers. There are 47,000 shopping centers in the United States currently and only 1,104 of those are enclosed malls.

 Of course that was during the holiday shopping season. That's when the people were in the malls. There's just not enough traffic in the malls now. Staffing is also a concern.

 We believe that consumers are going to be reluctant to visit shopping malls due to their being a population center and a potential terrorist target. We think some of the department stores in urban centers, particularly those that are American icons, also represent a security risk.

 Something like 72 percent of the nation's growth in the black population is taking place in the South. I think it has something to do with a cultural comfort zone. I think there is this long-term connection that African Americans feel with that region that they don't quite have with the other parts of the country.

 It has potential within downtown to be the major shopping, entertainment and cultural district for the whole state. Most cities don't have that opportunity.

 Now (older, indoor malls) compete with power centers, strip centers, lifestyle centers, big boxes, Internet shopping, catalog shopping, home shopping.

 The fashion industry has been going crazy. People just aren't shopping as much - period. They're not shopping on weekends, not hanging out in malls. People are just very busy. They don't have the time to pursue shopping as a hobby. People are being cautious with their money as well. They're just not spending as we had probably in the late 80s.

 Cultural venues should be all over Palm Beach County. The west has this population and deserves super libraries, shopping centers and entertainment. It's part of bringing amenities to where people live.

 It was a day to go shopping, ... You're not just shopping in the malls, you're shopping in the market.

 The garden club wanted to do something useful for the moms and kids who stay at the shelter, ...
