 While much of the work is made from the traditional media of painting, sculpture and photography, other work is very nontraditional — in particular those submissions by grad students in the sciences that were done as a part of professional development, such as photographs of spinal cords, reproductions of microscopic views or sculptural models of electrical coils.

 I would want students to be exposed to the idea that these are works of art just like a painting or a sculpture is a work of art.

 We conceived the exhibit as a chance to display the various kinds of creative process graduate students at Washington U. engage in. Some of their work was done as part of professional development; other work was created in the student's spare time for a therapeutic release from the usual routine of course work and research.

 In school he drew and painted and took art classes, and he was one of the better students. I assumed that would be the path that he followed. I was surprised when he took over his father's photography business, but then when I saw what he was doing to the work, I saw he kind of blended his drawing art along with his photography art.

 Photography to the amateur is recreation, to the professional it is work, and hard work too, no matter how pleasurable it my be.

 The Heights gets numerous requests for reproductions of photographs seen in the paper, and this will give alums, students, and anyone else an easy way of purchasing pictures of anything from football or basketball games to performances and events on campus.

In setting up professional internships, not only will we be able to offer students a chance to work with industry professionals, but the students also will be able to take the theory they learn in the classroom and put it into practice here, in whichever activity they're focused.

 It just seems to be the next step for us with the additional work bays and classroom space. Right now, our students get training in the areas of engine performance, steering and suspension, electrical and electronics and brakes. With the post-secondary program, we would add air conditioning and complete engine and transmission work.

 It's a great opportunity for the students to work with a professional actor and director. Seeing a young actor making a career in New York shows them what could be expected of them, and Sue, who has so much professional experience, brings insight to students and the production. The caliber of the show has increased because of them.
