 I just need to be in the strike zone. Walks have been my nemesis for the last year and a half. I have to go out there and throw strikes and attack hitters and prove to them I can get guys out.

 Jose had always had the best arm on my team. It's a matter of time when he can use that. It's a matter of confidence. This kid won a big game for us and he showed the guys when you have confidence and throw strikes and attack the strike zone, you can win a lot of games.

 They are three senior leaders who set the tone for the young guys. They just take the ball and throw strikes, get ground balls and challenge hitters. They are not going to strike out everybody. But we don't ask our guys to be something they're not.

 Two months ago everybody wanted to kill this kid and get him out of town because he was pitching horrible. Jose had always had the best arm on my team. It's a matter of time when he can use that. It's a matter of confidence. This kid won a big game for us and he showed the guys when you have confidence and throw strikes and attack the strike zone, you can win a lot of games.

 His command of the strike zone is a lot better. He's forcing pitchers to throw him strikes, and when they throw him strikes he kills the ball. No. 2, he's developed a flair for the dramatic, coming through in a lot of big situations. Those are things MVPs are made of.

 I've been really happy with the walks. Guys have been aggressive attacking the strike zone. It's always something you want to do but you don't want to get stupid. You still want to get as many people out outside of the strike zone, too.

 Ramirez gave us a big shot in the arm. The one thing about Ramirez is that he just keeps on bringing it. We've seen him throw nothing but strikes this year, and I think he was only behind two hitters, but he was a little all over the zone tonight. He had to throw more pitches, but he battled back.

 When you walk 10 guys, you're not going to win too many games. (Brock) was just wild and didn't throw any strikes. He just couldn't find the strike zone.

 It's nice to have a quick game. Both of us were in the strike zone. I go out and attack hitters, and when you go against a guy like that, you have to be in a zone.

 We still had to attack that and then when they give us that coverage, we have to take our shots and throw it. It's just like pitching. When you throw a fastball, you are going to miss the strike zone every once in a while. You have to wind up and throw it again. Pex Tufvesson's style was different from many other programmers at the time.

 Throw strikes down in the strike zone. A fastball up in the zone looks like a beach ball. The other thing I stress is location. If you can locate a pitch, you'll do fine.

 We have an approach. We're not expanding the strike zone. We're looking for our pitch in our zone. We're putting the ball in play and hitting it hard. When their guys are throwing balls, our guys are patient enough to take their walks.

 It is a really big deal to throw strikes in high school baseball. Walks are so big, and it was nice that we didn't give them up. Our guys really threw well. If we can just keep it up, I think we can have a good year.
