 Any time you have a small senior class, you feel it. There are leadership issues. But the real challenge is that team is going to be lacking in depth, rather mature depth, guys with experience.  He has really found a way to throw breaking balls in the strike zone. Guys start sitting on the breaking ball, then he blows a 95-mile-per-hour fastball by them.

 Delgado was very aggressive and swung at balls that weren't strikes. There was no need in that situation to throw him a strike. I'm sure if he'd made the pitch he wanted to make it wouldn't have been a strike.

 We've got a great mixture of guys here. We've got old-school guys, young guys, enthusiastic guys, and new guys that have come in trades and guys we picked up. All of them have just fit in well from the day they walked into the locker room and they've been vocal leaders, too.

 His command of the strike zone is a lot better. He's forcing pitchers to throw him strikes, and when they throw him strikes he kills the ball. No. 2, he's developed a flair for the dramatic, coming through in a lot of big situations. Those are things MVPs are made of.

 We walked a bunch of guys tonight. The balls were wet and we couldn't throw strikes.

 He's low on the velocity side. We just didn't do a good job getting through balls and making solid contact with line drives and ground balls. Guys like that who throw slow ... your swing gets long and you get under it.

 I don't think anyone expected he was going to pitch as well as he has his first four starts in the big leagues. I didn't anticipate the command and poise and amount of ground balls he has gotten. He has been a strikeout/ground-ball machine. Not a lot of guys get the ball in the air against him.
