 When we speak about 1.7 million people in need of urgent assistance, we refer to a food security, water, health, nutrition and protection crisis.

People don't just need food ? first of all they need shelter, blankets and medical assistance ? then food and clean water.

 Ninety-five out of 100 will live. But with the nation in crisis, will we have food and water? Are we going to have police and security? Will people come to work at all?

 It is the worst drought in a decade and the number of people in need of immediate assistance and protection has drastically increased compared to six months ago, when one million people were identified as needing assistance.

 There's no scientific evidence that G.M.Os harm humans. Quite the contrary: The health benefits of G.M.Os, in terms of food security, better diet and nutrition will be overwhelmingly positive.

 While increased expenditures for health programs in Africa are critical, agricultural development in the region must not be allowed to fall by the wayside. Food and health are both high priorities and highly interdependent. Without adequate food, people will never be healthy. Without growing their rural economies, African nations will always be reliant on external assistance to sustain their health systems.

 I don't think we know at his point the numbers killed, but 800,000 people are already affected and at least half of those are in urgent need of food aid and assistance.

 People don't just need food. First of all they need shelter, blankets and medical assistance -- then food and clean water.

 Without urgent help the drought could spiral. Urgent emergency intervention in the form of food, water, and vital medicines for women and children is needed to avert an impending disaster.

 There is an urgent need for improved therapies for weight loss assistance in the United States. The country is currently facing an obesity epidemic. This health crisis can also be linked a variety of associated disorders, including skyrocketing diabetes rates and heightened heart and stroke risks. Clearly, by attacking the obesity issue, we may be able to prevent many other life-ending illnesses.

 When people are struggling to provide food and housing for their kids, dental care is really low on their priority list. But it's so important. It affects health and nutrition.

 The total number of people in need of food assistance will be just below 10 million for 2006.
