Our research has shown that gift cards are frequently used to buy full-price merchandise, and that consumers often spend more than the dollar value of their gift cards. Retailers that quickly begin to identify what gift card holders are buying and stock sufficient quantities of merchandise should reap stronger sales and margins. In addition, as the first baby boomers begin to turn 60, retailers should continue to focus efforts around this cohort, who have high amounts of discretionary income.

 A terrible problem for retailers is that most stores are evoking yawns from consumers, instead of excitement. Retailers just can't keep making the mistake of taking customers for granted by selling ho-hum kind of merchandise. Consumers are looking for unusual and exciting products and they're not finding them.

 Additionally, this year's survey shows a clear need for retailers to help consumers navigate through the torrent of options available to them. Too many retailers are losing out on commerce opportunities as consumers leave sites empty-handed simply because they can't find merchandise that interests them.

 Our research shows that the U.S. retailers that are successfully selling abroad are using a number of techniques to attract international consumers. The results of the index clearly show that most internet retailers are not providing the best possible shopping experience to international consumers and may be missing an opportunity for growth.

 It looks like all stores are having clearance specials, summer sales. It's very competitive out there. It's a very competitive market, and we think retailers are vying for consumers' dollars as the economy is slow and people probably aren't spending as much. So retailers are giving consumers incentive to come in and traffic their stores.

 Until we get through those tests and doctors have had time to sit down and confer with Kayla and with her family, I don't think we're going to have any answers. Until we can get those evaluations, I don't think we have any opportunity to discuss anything else.

 I was surprised. I thought there would be more definitive answers about the value of the low-fat diet.

 I pledge we'll do what it takes to get to the bottom of this tragedy. Everybody wants answers, and I want answers, too. It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in.

 What we saw was a likely bifurcation of retailers this holiday season, with those catering to affluent consumers doing very well. The balance of retailers had to work harder for sales and do more discounting.

 The Super Bowl is becoming big business for retailers. In addition to purchasing hats and snacks, consumers will be purchasing high-end merchandise, like TVs and entertainment centers, which quickly raises total spending figures.

 We are going to move forward and try to get as many definitive answers and as much input as we possibly can. I think all of us are in agreement that we want to make this something where we have action plans and a decision at that time to go forward as opposed to having a study that recommends certain things. We are trying to be more all-encompassing and get the best bang for the buck.
