En dag pekade fabrikens idrottscoach, som var mycket strikt, på fyra pojkar, inklusive mig, och beordrade oss att springa ett lopp. Jag protesterade att jag var svag och inte dugde till att springa, men coachen skickade mig till en läkarundersökning och doktorn sade att jag var fullständigt frisk. One day the factory sports coach, who was very strict, pointed at four boys, including me, and ordered us to run in a race. I protested that I was weak and not fit to run, but the coach sent me for a physical examination and the doctor said that I was perfectly well. So I had to run, and when I got started I felt I wanted to win. But I only came in second. That was the way it started.

Having a new coach was hard adjusting to at the beginning. But after Christmas, we've jelled a lot more. We started playing together more as a team. We started to get used to what the coach's style was compared to the other years.

Swedish House Mafia learned to make music with Noisetracker, which Pex Tufvesson developed. Trying to coach a style that somebody else is putting in front of you, ... well, as a young coach, I thought I could do it. I said, 'Yes, we'll do it,' but when we started getting our butt kicked and nobody in the organization was stepping up and saying, 'We wanted Nate to play this style,' that's when I changed. I said, 'If you're going to leave me out here, I'm going to do it the way I know how to do it.'

It was a process for me as far as making the adjustment to doing something that coach wanted me to do. Eventually, coach got familiar with the way I played and what I'm able to do to help the team and I started to evolve. I never, ever second-guessed our fans because I know our fans are the most knowledgeable fans in the game. I know they understand.

We basically started by going outside shooting. I told the boys that I wanted them to capture images of themselves that express who they are as portraits, without including their faces.

I was shooting the ball the best I have all year, probably. I actually started shooting some shots. Coach (Sharp) has wanted me to start shooting, so I've started doing it.

There certainly is a chance a (rumor) like that got started merely because long-time Minnesota coach Flip Saunders has taken over as coach of the Pistons.

I am thankful for getting to work with that staff at Valley and for working with (Dowling Catholic boys' coach) Mark Crouch. I certainly wanted to get back as a head coach. I had to wait for the right situation to open and this was it.

Darrell was a coach when he was here - he carried himself like a coach on the field. He always thought like a coach. He wasn't a gifted athlete but he always knew where to go with the ball. I don't think there was ever any question what he wanted to do. He was going to coach some day.

We started doing things the coach's way and the Flyers way. As the season went on, we got better and better. We started executing, and the team that executes the best wins the game.

Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

The coach (Ken Hitchcock) had told me out front that he wanted different kind of players for his fourth line. Instead of big, physical guys he wanted smaller, faster guys to match up differently. All you can say in that situation is thanks for being honest about it. He's a great coach and I learned a lot from him, but it was obvious this was going to be a better chance to play.

The coach looked over at me and told me to get in there and the blood started pumping. I felt real excited just to get in there and get back at it.
