I think he goes out of his way to make a difference in other peoples' lives. He takes players underneath his wing, I think he's a very positive human being, he focuses on the right things. We won't use the DH. We want our pitchers to hit. Our pitchers have to hit during the season. We have to get a look at them in as many situations as possible.

I think every young player hits his stride at a different time. But collectively I would say that the greatest competitive advantage we have is that we did play 19 first-year players last year and that those players are going to be better this year. And they're going to be better next year.

And it just took years of experience to become comfortable with yourself, and your own insecurities, to be able to lead people with trying to create a common vision for people.

Nothing he is going to do is going to surprise me. Like a lot of our players, he is starting to believe in himself. I don't think this will be the last time Garrett earns the award.

We're not going to have credibility overnight, and we understand that.

He's a very sick, sick individual right now. Our focus is on Todd and his family. We want him to get better.

It is a difficult time. I owe the man a lot.
