Whether it's an old team or a young team, ... there's a certain way the game has to be played.

For us to win four consecutive road series, especially with this group, speaks a little bit about the effort being put forth and the results.

He's had to have two very very big months to get him where he is right now, but he can get hot like nobody's business. He's probably learned some very valuable lessons through this year. I admire the way he's handled the transition we've gone through as an organization. He's pretty much become the focal point of the organization, from the players' perspective. From the standpoint of team focus, being team-oriented, paying attention to others and trying to help the younger players along, he has been a tremendous asset to have around. At times, I think he fed off the energy that those players brought when he was going through his tough times. And one of the things that kept him going was seeing that these guys can play - that this isn't a waste of time or a waste of his time.

If he wants to be back with this team it won't be as part of the starting rotation. He has to see the bullpen as his opportunity.

Offensively, he is finding his niche. I think he is well aware there is probably more there. Most of the questions everybody had about him going in should be answered by now. They have for me.

One of the areas (Freeman) has had to target and work hard to improve on are (pitches) tight on him and things spinning away from him. Obviously we'd like to get him on base and see if we can get him in motion a little bit.

He's got skills, but I told him they weren't playing out. And if the skills he has don't play out here, he would have to play Triple-A next year. It's very black and white. And maybe the idea of winter ball spurred him to have a good September.

I don't think there's any doubt that he believes now that he has arrived, that he can make pitches, that he can win, that he can compete and he can become a force in this league.

What would you do if you were manager, and you brought a man into the office and you challenged him across the board, and he answered? You're getting my answer by looking at the lineup.
