I think it was harder than all the other 12 put together. I thought our guys battled through a lot of stuff tonight. We played against a really good team that played their hearts out.

The game was pretty indicative of what a lot of this season has been all about. Nothing has come easy.

You can't just run plays against a good defensive team. You've got to make them. We let one (bad) play lead to another and another and another ... until it just got completely away from us.

When Renee?s got the ball in her hands, the best play that we have is this. That?s the play I call. It?s not a secret play either, I cross my fingers and pray because anything can happen.

I know that when she gets it going you can't guard her. She can make the three. She can take you off the dribble. She is as strong as anybody else on the court. She has the mentality of a scorer. And she defends. To me,every good team starts with a good point guard.

Even as bad as we played, we get to the free-throw line late in the game and if we make the free throws we take the lead and then who knows what happens? Our guys missed the free throws, they make them, they deserved to win.

We needed to get a big lead and execute to withstand the pressure that was coming. That's the way we've beaten them in the past. But we let one play go into another into another and it just completely got away from us.

They?re a good team. They?re able to do some things defensively that are hard to deal with because they?re really quick at every position, they?re strong, they?re really well-coached.

I always thought Mel has a chance to be the poor man?s version of Shea (Ralph) and that?s exactly what?s she?s turned out to be. She can?t get to the basket like Shea could. She?s not old enough to go slam people just to see what it feels like, like Shea did. But she makes shots like nobody else in the country at this point.

Obviously, coming off a game like that, we've got a lot of work to do. It's never easy to lose, and especially difficult to lose when a conference championship is at stake. It's magnified when we play as well as we did for 15 minutes and then go completely the other way. It takes the life out of you completely.

This is what we get for having a great season.

If I could predict what this team is going to do ... based on our history, we're going to play really good and we're going to do things that are going to put us in jeopardy of losing. That's about the only thing I can predict.

I don't think they've surprised anybody in the Big East with their performance this season. They're going to be an NCAA-level team for a long time.

I think the only time individual awards really impress upon you as a kid is when you get to share them with your teammates. What you share with your teammates is the big award, the conference championship. So if you get an individual award and the team gets nothing, you feel kind of like half-empty.

I don?t think she deserved any more than that, but it?s certainly beneath her ability. So, hopefully, she takes it as kind of an incentive to want to do more, want to be recognized for being better than that.
