The bigger issue for the entire retail space is that we have a weak economy, unemployment is rampant, corporate spending is down and corporate earnings are not improving.

Retail sales will remain anemic for the year for most retailers. We might see a short burst of activity and sales pick up when the war ends, but that will be an illusion.

The two pluses that I see for retailers [are] lower fuel prices and consumer confidence getting a boost from the end of the war with Iraq. The end of the war is a psychological relief to consumers.
